Closed areas: Closed areas for pest animal management program

Some areas of Royal National Park will be closed to the public between sunset and sunrise to enable pest animal management programs to be carried out.

These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas.

The affected areas include:

  • Audley Precinct
  • Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote
  • Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
  • North Era campground
  • Garrawarra Farm
  • Lady Carrington Drive

Visitors who have approved bookings to camp can still access their campsites during these times.

Closed areas: Blue Mountains National Park - closed areas

The following areas of Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to bushfire or storm damage, road or track works:

Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls

  • Furber Steps will be closed from 1300 15 June to 27 June due to rock clearing works. Federal Pass may have stop /go traffic control where necessary.
  • Part of National Pass from Valley of Waters to Slacks Stairs, due to ongoing rockfall risk.
  • Amphitheatre track from the base of Bridal Veil falls to Fern Bower, due to ongoing rockfall risk. Lindemans Pass will be closed from 15 June to 27 June where it crosses Leura Falls Creek due to rock clearing works on Amphitheatre Track above.
  • Part of Prince Henry Cliff walk between Leura Cascades and the Bridal Veil View East lookout track junction is closed Tuesdays to Fridays only, due to track maintenance. There is no pedestrian access between Katoomba and Leura within the national park. Walkers accessing Leura Cascades from the east must return by the same route.
  • Part of Prince Henry Cliff walk between the Fern Bower junction and Tallawalla lookout is closed due to a major landslide and track maintenance. Walkers can exit/enter via Silver Mist picnic area. (Note: Walkers can still access Fern Bower via Solitary Restaurant).
  • Prince Henry Cliff walk between Gordon Falls lookout and Olympian lookout, due to landslides. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Charles Darwin walk north of Weeping Rock circuit. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Murphys Glen (campground and picnic area) is closed to vehicles due to wet weather. Walkers and cyclists permitted.
  • Ingar Road is closed where it traverses private property at the end of Queen Elizabeth Drive. Ingar campground is therefore closed to vehicles. Walkers and cyclists permitted where they do not traverse private property.
  • Andersons trail is impassable to vehicles (where authorised) due to flood/tree damage. Cyclists and walkers can traverse around.
  • Kedumba Valley Road and Sublime Point fire trail are closed to all vehicles Monday to Friday until Friday 11 June 2021, for road repairs. Walkers and runners should avoid the routes where possible. They are permitted, but should keep well clear of machinery.

Blackheath, Medlow Bath, Mount Victoria and Bells Line

  • Govetts Leap descent and Rodriguez Pass walking track, due to fire damage to infrastructure and landslides after storms.
  • Perrys Lookdown campground, due to dangerous trees.
  • Walls Cave, Popes Glen and Pulpit Rock tracks are closed due to fire and flood damage and associated repairs.
  • Pierces Pass Road is closed due to storm damage. Walkers and cyclists permitted.

Canyons and rock climbing areas

  • Pulpit Rock climbing area and all other areas that require access along closed walking tracks or roads.
  • Wollangambe 1 Canyon closed due to a dangerous whirlpool.

Note: All canyons except Wollangambe 1 are open. Visitors should exercise caution, as recent flooding may have left debris or moved rocks.

If you arrive at your local national park or other public space and it is too crowded to practice social distancing, it's your responsibility to leave the area.

Closed areas: Wattamolla lower loop carpark and picnic area closed

The Lower Loop carpark and picnic area are closed for upgrades until October 2021. Access through Wattamolla for the Royal Coast track will be available and signposted. Access to the beach, amenities building, upper carpark areas and Providential Point will remain open.

Large vehicles and buses over 8.8 metres cannot access Wattamolla. Buses should not enter Wattamolla Road from Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. There is no safe area to park or manoeuvre at Wattamolla or along Wattamolla Road. All other vehicles can enter Wattamolla and park in carparks numbers 2 to 5 (parking is limited during peak periods).

Closed areas: Warumbul Road and picnic area closed

The unsealed section of Warumbul Road is closed at the intersection of Rathane Road on week days from Tuesday 15 June to Friday 3 July 2021 for road maintenance work. This means there will be no access to Warumbul picnic area on week days during the road closure. The closure may be extended if weather delays are experienced.  

The sealed section of Warumbul Road will remain open for visitors accessing the Youthworks properties and cottages. 

Pedestrians and other road users should expect increased truck movements during this time. Visitors are advised to exercise caution.

Sections of road within Thirlmere Lakes National Park will be closed from Monday 31 May 2021. The W E Middleton Memorial Drive will also be closed, although residents will still be able to access their property.

The works are expected to take approximately 4 weeks, however this period may be extended. Efforts will be made to ensure that at least one of the two picnic areas in this area - Werri Berri picnic area and Couridjah - are open and accessible.

Please follow all signage and be aware of trucks and machinery operating on the road during this time.

Safety alerts: Advanced navigation required for Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) track

Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) track has been damaged by fire, storms and flooding. The trail is overgrown with significant understorey brush and grass growth.

Fallen trees, vegetation covered loose rocks and burnt out stump holes may result in slips, trips and falls. Advanced navigation skills are required to undertake this trail.

Safety alerts: Diversion on Mount Keira Ring track

The staircase on the western side of Mount Keira Road at the junction of Mount Keira Road and Queen Elizabeth Drive has been closed off for repairs. Please follow the relevant signage for a slight detour to the ring track at the crossing of Queen Elizabeth Drive.

If completing the loop in a clockwise direction: head north uphill of the closed staircase for roughly 50m until you come to an opening by the road. Take care crossing the road at this point and re-join the track at the usual entry point to the eastern side of the loop.

If completing the loop in an anticlockwise direction: when you get to Queen Elizabeth Drive crossing head north for roughly 50m from the point of entry to the western side of the loop. Re-join the track at this point.
