Closed areas: Govetts Leap lookout
The visitor precinct at Govetts Leap lookout in Blue Mountains National Park, Blackheath is closed for upgrades from Thursday 11 August 2022 to February 2023.
The carpark and lookout will be closed during construction.
Blue Mountains Heritage Centre and the toilets at Govetts Leap lookout will remain open.
Access to walking tracks will be provided to tracks that are open. Track closures are updated regularly. Check the NPWS alerts page for updates.
The works include improvements to the lookout and carpark, and construction of new accessible pathways in the area.

Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed
Many walking tracks, roads and fire trails within Blue Mountains National Park remain closed following sustained wet weather, subsequent geological instability or infrastructure upgrades. As sites are opened, we remind visitors that these areas have been subject to long periods of high rainfall, and landslides, rockfall and treefall can occur without notice.
Please check which areas are closed before travelling.

- No access to Scenic World from Echo Point via Giant Stairs and Dardanelles Pass
- Federal Pass (west of Furber Stairs)
- Sublime Point fire trail

- Lone Lyrebird track between Gordon Road and the War Memorial, due to a major washout
- Lillian's Bridge track - closure at junction of Inspiration Point track. No through access to Valley of the Waters and the Conservation Hut due to a major landslide.
- Prince Henry Cliff walk between Gordon Falls lookout and Olympian lookout, due to landslides. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.

Canyons and rock climbing
- Climbing and canyoning areas in the Blue Mountains are open unless the access road is closed or the site is listed in this alert
- Empress Canyon - Access via West St only. Exit via Valley of the Waters to Conservation Hut.
Grade 5 tracks and off-trail areas
Grade 5 tracks and off-trail areas are open, excluding those listed below. Grade 5 tracks are for very experienced bushwalkers with specialised skills such as advanced navigation and emergency first aid. Please visit this page for further information on track grades.
If you plan on embarking on Grade 5 tracks or undertaking off-trail activities, please be aware of the likelihood of changed conditions and consider current safety advice.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial baiting program using fresh meat containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Whilst there is continuing rainfall periodically in Bungonia National Park, the Bungonia Creek water level may at times be higher than normal.
If you're planning to undertake the Red walking track, please assess water levels before continuing through the Bungonia Slot. If in doubt, turn back. Do not enter flood waters. Report conditions via the park register book on-site.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.
The burial of used baits and products will happen from Wednesday 16 March to Friday 16 September 2022. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products) 2019.
There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.

The operation will use meat baits, meat bait products and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
