Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.
The following tracks are closed:
Katoomba and Leura
- Giant Stairway is closed for repairs from Monday 28 April 2025 until further notice.
- Leura Cascades track (bottom section) is closed until the end of 2025 for track upgrade works. There is no access to Prince Henry Cliff walk (part of Grand Clifftop walk) between the top of Leura Cascades and the Amphitheatre junction. Short detour via Cliff Drive.
- Leura Cascades parking area and toilets are closed. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
- Fern Bower track between Prince Henry Cliff walk and Amphitheatre track is closed due to landslides and associated repairs.
- Glenrapheal Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. Walkers and cyclists permitted.
- Sublime Point fire trail is closed for road maintenance. The planned works will take 5 weeks, commencing on Monday 26 May 2025.
- Part of Grand Cliff Top walk will be closed intermittently east of Fairmont Resort for a helicopter operation on Thursday 26 June 2025. Please follow the directions of NPWS staff and contractors including Stop/go signage. Please expect delays.
- Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
- Six Foot track is affected by closures at Jenolan Caves.
Wentworth Falls and Woodford
- Charles Darwin walk (part of Grand Cliff Top walk) is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. Detours are in place to provide directions to Wentworth Falls picnic area. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
- Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
- Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. No access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
- Valley of the Waters is closed for repairs below Nature track junction from Wednesday 21 May to Friday 4 July 2025. There is no access to Empress Falls and Sylvia Falls.
- Kings Tableland Road (south of Kedumba Valley Road instersection) will be closed for roadworks from Tuesday 20 May to Friday 4 July 2025. As a result, there's no access to Andersons mountain bike route and McMahons lookout. It also affects one access point to Ingar campground. Vehicle access will only be permitted to residents for this period. Access to cyclists, runners and walkers will be permitted on weekends only.
Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road
- Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
- Govetts descent and Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. The Grose Valley can be accessed from Blackheath via Perry's Lookdown or the Horse track.
Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing
- Empress Canyon is closed from Wednesday 21 May 2025 to Monday 30 June 2025 due to track repairs.

All single-track mountain bike trails in Royal National Park are closed from Tuesday 1st July to Friday 4th July due to wet and muddy trail conditions and forecast strong winds. This closure is to prevent damage to recently upgraded trails. This closure will be reassessed on the 4th and may be extended if trail conditions remain wet.
Riding on fire management (4WD) tracks is still permitted, but please take care as management tracks may be wet and slippery.

Waterfall Oval and Helipad will be used for periodic helicopter operations on weekends and some weekdays between 26th June and 24t July 2025 to support a Sydney Trains rail upgrade program . The oval will be used to store equipment and materials and the helipad will be used for slung loads to be flown into the rail corridor south of Waterfall Township.
Park visitors seeking to use the Uloola falls Fire Trail or Walking track from Waterfall Train station may be asked by crews working on the project to wait for short periods whilst slung loads are flown across the tracks. Delays will be minimal.

Closed areas: The Coast track - partial closure
Walking the full length of The Coast track from Otford to Bundeena or Bundeena to Otford is not currently possible due to several track closures along its length. These closures are necessary due to erosion, rockfall risk and ongoing track upgrade works.
Please note the following closures:
- The Garie to Little Garie section of The Coast track is closed due to hazardous rockfalls and erosion
- North Era campground is closed until further notice
- Garie Road, Garie Beach and the Garie precinct is closed until further notice due to damage and subsidence of the road surface. Walkers approaching from the north (e.g. from Wattamolla or Bundeena) should exit the track via Curra Moors track. Walkers approaching from the south can Exit to Garawarra Farm via the Burgh Ridge Track.
Bushwalker access is available for the following sections of The Coast track:
- South bound access - Bundeena to Curra Moors track via Wattamolla and return only. No access to Garie Beach.
- North bound access - Otford to Thelma Ridge Via Burning Palms and Era and return only. No access to Garie Beach.

The operation consists of the following Control Methods
*The Use of Hoggone (Sodium Nitrite) bait
Hoggone contains peanuts. Anyone with a Peanut allergy is advised not to handle bait product.
Hoggone is lethal to pets and domestic animals, so it is recommended that you contain any livestock or animals during the program.
*Pig trapping through Nattai NP and SCA and Burragorang SCA during this period through the W4I, W4H, Valley Roads and Burragorang Valley.
This will involve the use of firearms to shoot pigs in traps.
Signage and a site assessment will be undertaken before any firearms are discharged; however, staff and contractors should be aware.
A contractor will also be used for pig trapping in the Southern section of our program.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a continual and ongoing 1080 ground baiting program for the control of foxes from Thursday 12 December 2024 to Friday 8 August 2025.
The program targets target foxes in the Carrington Falls, Budderoo Plateau, Knights Hill and Barren Grounds areas. Bait stations are located on NPWS estate and Crown road reserves with permissions. Both buried baits and Canid Pest Ejectors are used in this program.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, particularly the threatened species within these areas.
1080 baiting signs are at all entries to the baiting location. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). All access to the base of Belmore Falls is permanently closed as there is a risk of falling from the cliff edge and severe injury or death. This includes access from Hindmarsh and Belmore Falls lookouts and picnic areas.
Access is also closed to the top of Belmore Falls, including from the Belmore Falls Road causeway.
There is limited mobile phone reception in this area. You may not be able to call for help if you need it and access for emergency services is difficult.

Cycle routes in Conjola National Park may currently be unsuitable for some cyclists due to recent roadworks. There are many sections of large ballast rock that have been used in boggy areas that may be difficult for cyclists to negotiate. It is hoped these will silt up over time and be more suitable for cyclists.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Monday 23rd September 2024 to Tuesday 23rd September 2025. The operation will use a Felixer containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral cats, and approved meat baits, meat bait products, and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) for the control of foxes and wild dogs.
The program will be conducted in Nattai National Park.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Potential difficulties for cyclists navigating Beehive Walking Track
Cyclists undertaking the Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley cycling route are advised that there may be difficulties riding Beehive Walking Track, which provides one of two access routes to Beehive Campground. The original track has been closed to vehicles with many large logs impeding access. Alternative riding access to Beehive Campground is possible via Jack's Corner Road and Beehive Point Road.
This closure only affects cyclists wishing to access Beehive Point Campground. Walkers are not impacted by this closure and cyclists may choose to walk the trail with their bikes, lifting them over logs when required.
