Closed areas: Riverside walk partial closure

Riverside walk will be closed between Carter Creek picnic area (Area 9) and Cottonwood Glen picnic area (Area 13) from Tuesday 14 July 2020 until further notice. The closure is to allow staff to remove a hazardous tree. Visitors can detour along Riverside Drive.

Closed areas: Toilet closures in Lane Cove National Park

Some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends, public holidays and during school holidays. The closed toilets are at:

  • Blue Wren and Illoura (Areas 4-5)
  • Carters Creek (Area 9)
  • Scribbly Gums (Area 17)
  • Bakers Flat (Area 28)
  • Haynes Flat (Area 32)

Closed areas: Lane Cove Depot Road closed

The Lane Cove Depot Road in Lane Cove National Park will be closed from Monday 16 April 2020 until further notice. This is because the road is being upgraded to improve safety for road users. During this time, vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians are not permitted to use the road.

Closed areas: Malabar Headland Anzac Rifle Range

1. For public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice.

2. When is the eastern section of the park closed?

  • Every Saturday from 7.30am
  • All day Wednesday 15 July, Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July 2020.

3. Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed

These closures apply to the eastern section of the park only (Boora Point walking track).

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

The range operation schedule is provided by the NSW Rifle Association.

Fig Tree Flat carpark at Audley in Royal National Park is closed until further notice for maintenance. Alternate parking is available at Willow Tree Flat, Ironbark Flat, Currawong Flat or Wattle Forest.

Closed areas: Closed areas for pest animal management program

Some areas of Royal National Park will be closed to the public between sunset and sunrise to enable pest animal management programs to be carried out.

These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas.

The affected areas include:

  • Audley precinct and Lady Carrington Drive
  • Artillery Hill and Warumbul Road
  • Bonnie Vale campground and picnic area.
  • Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote
  • Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
  • North Era campground
  • Garrawarra Farm

Visitors who have approved bookings to camp can still access their campsites during these times.

Safety alerts: Pest management program - North Head

A pest fox control operation is in progress across North Head from Friday 12 June 2020 until further notice. Areas where trapping is underway will be signposted. Please keep to the centre of formed tracks.

Some areas may be closed temporarily. Signs will be in place around any closed areas.

As a result of recent storms, the footbridge on the walking track between Bonnie Vale and Maianbar has been damaged. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) in Sydney Harbour National Park. This includes Chowder Bay and Dobroyd, Bradleys, Georges, Middle and North headlands. North Head includes adjoining land of Sydney Harbour Federation Trust, Australian Institute of Police Management, and Quarantine Station.

The program is continuous and ongoing between 1 February 2020 and 31 July 2020. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs. Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Safety alerts: Lower steps on Shark Island Wharf closed

The lower 4 steps of Shark Island Wharf are closed due to a safety hazard. Using these steps for berthing, drop-off and pick-up is prohibited. Access is only possible using the upper stairs.

Small vessels and boats may not be able to berth, particularly at low tide.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

  • in the Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • 7am–7.30pm August to May. 7am–5.30pm June to July.

    Areas may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day applies in the Kurnell area only. The park has coin-operated pay and display machines - please bring correct coins. The park also has credit card accepting payment facilities.
