Waratah Native Gardens picnic area is closed until further notice. This includes Gorge walking track. No access to the area is permitted. Penalties apply for non-compliance. The following areas of Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to bushfire or storm damage, road or track works:

Katoomba and Leura 

  • Amphitheatre track from the base of Bridal Veil falls to Fern Bower, due to ongoing rockfall risk.
  • Lindemans Pass is closed where it crosses Leura Falls Creek, due to track works.
  • Parts of Prince Henry Cliff walk are closed:
    • between the Fern Bower junction and Tallawalla lookout, due to a major landslide and track maintenance. Walkers can exit/enter via Silver Mist picnic area. Walkers can also still access Fern Bower via Solitary Restaurant
    • between Gordon Falls lookout and Olympian lookout, due to landslides. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Six Foot track is closed where managed by Crown Lands due to COVID-19. NPWS-managed sections are open.

Wentworth Falls

  • Part of National Pass from Valley of Waters to Slacks Stairs, due to ongoing rockfall risk.
  • Charles Darwin walk north of Weeping Rock circuit. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Ingar Road is closed where it traverses private property at the end of Queen Elizabeth Drive. Ingar campground is therefore closed to vehicles. Walkers and cyclists are permitted where they do not traverse private property.

Blackheath, Medlow Bath, Megalong Valley, Mount Victoria and Bells Line

  • Govetts Leap descent and Rodriguez Pass walking track, due to fire damage to infrastructure and landslides after storms.
  • Perrys lookdown campground, due to dangerous trees.
  • Walls Cave, Popes Glen and Pulpit Rock tracks are closed due to fire and flood damage and associated repairs.
  • Pierces Pass Road is closed until Friday 26 November 2021 to all traffic, including walkers and cyclists, for road repairs.  
  • Parts of the walking track next to Evans Lookout Road are closed from Tuesday 19 October to Saturday 30 October 2021, due to repair works.

Woodford, Hazelbrook, Lawson, Bullaburra 

  • From Monday 20 September to Friday 5th November  (Monday to Friday), there's no public access to Woodford State Conservation Area via Windbourne Road (L6) and Clearview Parade.

Canyons and rock climbing areas

  • Pulpit Rock climbing area and all other areas that require access along closed walking tracks or roads.

Note: All canyons are open. Visitors should exercise caution, as recent flooding may have left debris or moved rocks.

If you arrive at your local national park or other public space and it's too crowded to practice social distancing, it's your responsibility to leave the area.

Burralow Creek campground is closed to all vehicles from Thursday 1 July 2021 until further notice due to significant flood damage and damage to fire trails.

Paterson Range fire trail and Tabaraga Ridge fire trail are also closed.

The walking track between Gordon Falls picnic area and Pool of Siloam is closed Tuesdays to Fridays from Wednesday 18 August 2021 to Thursday 31 March 2022 for track upgrade works.  

Visitors can access Pool of Siloam from Pool of Siloam and Lyrebird Dell walking tracks.

Other planned events: Poison 1080 wild dog and fox control program notice

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic ground and aerial baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operations will involve the use of meat, manufactured products and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE’s) containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from  Saturday 26 June 2021 to Thursday 30 November 2021 in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

  • Abercrombie National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Wollemi National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park
  • Mares Forest National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve

These programs have been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state focused biosecurity issues. All baiting locations will be signposted.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Advanced navigation required for Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) track

Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) track has been damaged by fire, storms and flooding. The trail is overgrown with significant understorey brush and grass growth.

Fallen trees, vegetation covered loose rocks and burnt out stump holes may result in slips, trips and falls. Advanced navigation skills are required to undertake this trail.

Guula Ngurra National Park is closed. NSW National Parks plans to open the park within the next 3 months, after building works and campground facilities are completed. This closure will be reviewed on Wednesday 1 December 2021.

Only the Mount Penang section of Guula Ngurra is open, including Mount Penang loop walk, which was formerly part of Bangadilly National Park.

There is no vehicle access or camping in the eastern half of Coorongooba campground. The closure is to allow the area to settle and regenerate after major earthworks. This area has been substantially upgraded as a part of the NSW Government's Improving Access to National Parks Program.

Campground capacity has been reduced to reflect the area closed. New picnic tables and barbeques will be installed during this closure.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh meat baits and/or Canid Pest Ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes. The program will be continuous and ongoing between Monday 8 February 2021 and Friday 31 December 2021 in Wollemi National Park. This program is to protect the endangered Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby.

The following trails will be used as a part of this program:

  • Capertee River trail, downstream of the Coorongooba campground
  • Canobla Gap fire trail
  • Capertee River North trail

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The program will be continuous and ongoing from  Saturday 26 June 2021 to Thursday 30 November 2021 in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

  • Abercrombie National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Wollemi National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park
  • Mares Forest National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve

These programs have been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state focused biosecurity issues. All baiting locations will be signposted.

Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) track has been damaged by fire, storms and flooding. The trail is overgrown with significant understorey brush and grass growth.

Fallen trees, vegetation covered loose rocks and burnt out stump holes may result in slips, trips and falls. Advanced navigation skills are required to undertake this trail.

Some parts of Big Yengo National Park are closed for repair until Tuesday 1 March 2022 following significant storm and fire damage. Trails, fords, buildings and other infrastructure need to be repaired to ensure visitor safety and enjoyment.

Access to the Coorongooba campground is via a causeway through the Capertee River. This causeway is subject to flooding. The Capertee River can rise unexpectedly with heavy rains falling upstream, making the causeway impassable. Please check the weather forecast before leaving home.

Safety alerts: Diversion on Mount Keira Ring track

The staircase on the western side of Mount Keira Road at the junction of Mount Keira Road and Queen Elizabeth Drive has been closed off for repairs. Please follow the relevant signage for a slight detour to the ring track at the crossing of Queen Elizabeth Drive.

If completing the loop in a clockwise direction: head north uphill of the closed staircase for roughly 50m until you come to an opening by the road. Take care crossing the road at this point and re-join the track at the usual entry point to the eastern side of the loop.

If completing the loop in an anticlockwise direction: when you get to Queen Elizabeth Drive crossing head north for roughly 50m from the point of entry to the western side of the loop. Re-join the track at this point.
