There are currently slippery and unsafe road conditions on the Pinnacle Fire Trail. Please exercise caution and drive to conditions. 

 

Due to rising river levels, there is currently no access from Lochaber Link Road to Woolshed Flat Campground.

Heavy rain is predicted over the next few days. Roads and walking tracks could get damaged. Creek crossings could be flooded and impassable. There is an increased risk of tree fall and landslides. Visitors should check conditions and alerts prior to entering the Park. Roads, tracks and camping areas could get closed at short notice. Walkers should be prepared to turn around if creeks and rivers are flooding and hazardous to cross. Please ring the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre on 47878877 for more information.

Closed parks: Gardens of Stone SCA

Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area will be closed from 12pm, Friday 1 August, due to poor road conditions. Entry to the reserve is not permitted during this closure. The park will reopen once conditions are assessed and deemed safe.

This closure affects the following areas:

  • Glow Worm Tunnel
  • Lost City Walking Track and Lookout
  • Newnes Campground
  • Deep Pass Campground

The Pipeline Track between Newnes and Glen Davis is closed due to predicted heavy rainfall. The closure will remain in place until conditions have been assessed as safe.

Work has commenced on the upgrade of the Newnes to Four Ways walking track – part of the Glow Worm Tunnel to Newnes walking track. Please be aware of workers and materials on the walking track and take care around all work sites. Please follow any directions from staff onsite.

Closed areas: Forest Campground precinct closure

The area west of Glowworm Tunnel Road from Western Boundary Road to Fire Trail No. 1 will be closed from Monday 28 July 2025 for construction of visitor infrastructure works. The closure will be in place for at least 12 months while works continue.

During the closure, there is no public access to:

  • Western Boundary Road
  • Red Hill Road
  • Camp Road
  • Newnes Afforestation Camp
  • Any roads within the closed area including access to the southern end of Carne Creek Canyon

Closures are in place to enable the construction of:

  • Forest Campground (at the old Newnes Afforestation Camp Ruins) which will include 50 bookable sites, group campground and picnic area
  • Upgrading roads for 2WD access
  • Rehabilitation of damaged and eroded areas

 

Information for camping:

Bush camping is allowed at sites further than 200 metres from park infrastructure such as roads, walking tracks and lookouts.

Lost City Walking Track Carpark is currently closed for improvement works.

The improvement works at Lost City Walking Track Carpark will include a accessible footpaths, visitor information signage, seating, carparking and accessible double stall toilet. Revegetation work and planting of native species are also proposed.

Lost City Walking Track will remain open and accessible to visitors via Lost City Road. Visitors are advised to stay alert and follow the signage.

Safety alerts: Haulage trucks using Old Bells Line of Rd

Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

• Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00

• Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00

 

During these times road users are reminded to:

• drive with caution

• adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr

• listen for truck movements via UHF-11

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Friday 2 May 2025 to Friday 1 May 2026 in the following areas:

  • Abercrombie River National Park
  • Abercrombie River State Conservation Area
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park (southern section)
  • Wollemi National Park (Wolga)
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Area
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Tramway trail closed to vehicles due to rockfall

Tramway trail in Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area is closed to vehicles until further notice. The closure is due to a rockfall adjacent to the trail.
