Closed areas: Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive seasonal partial closure

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed between Mount Babyl north to Peacock Creek Road until Late February/March 2026 due to hazardous conditions over the wet summer season.

The following facilities will remain open

  • Culmaran loop trail
  • Culmaran Valley track

Please use Iron Pot Creek Road, Sextonville Road or Peacock Creek Road to access Peacock Creek campground as there will be no access via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive until the road re-opens.

Closed areas: Lyrebird Lane and The Glade Carpark closed

Lyrebird Lane and the Glade Carpark are closed to vehicles and pedestrians from 7am Monday 2nd Feb 2026 to 5pm Friday 1st May 2026 for civil works.

The Glade Carpark is being redeveloped and the Temporary Visitors Centre is still under construction in the Glade. Lyrebird Lane and the Glade Carpark will be closed to Visitors until the works are completed. NPWS staff can gain access through an induction process.

 

The Glade Picnic Area will still be open, however only pedestrian access will be possible via the Wonga Walk with all parking to be at the Rainforest Centre Precinct.

Nightcap Range Road is closed to traffic in both directions due to a major landslip associated with the 2022 flood event. The closure affects the section of Nightcap Range Road between Rummery Road intersection and Telephone Road trailer parking area.

Access to Minyon Falls and Rummery Park is via Minyon Falls Road only.

This closure affects travellers from the coast visiting Dorrigo and New England National Parks. 

 

Transport NSW advise that a diversions are in place:

Light Vehicles: Summervilles Rd, Gordonville Rd, Gleniffer Rd, Wheatley St, Hammond St, Bridge St. Suitable for both directions. This route has a 10-tonne vehicle limit.

Heavy vehicles are required to avoid the area or consider using an alternative route such as the Oxley Hwy, Gwydir Hwy or New England Hwy.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program in Susan Island Nature Reserve Area from 1 January to 31 July 2026.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs).

Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Moonee Creek (Sugar Mill Creek) Bridge is closed until further notice, due to damage from coastal erosion.

The bridge crossing provides access:

  • to Reflections Holiday Park
  • from Moonee south to Coffs Coast Regional Park, Green Bluff and Sapphire North.

If you are planning to do the Solitary Islands coastal walk please reroute:

  • west along Moonee Beach Road to the south-west corner of the shopping centre
  • south along new concrete path on eastern side of Pacific Highway
  • south onto southern end of North Solitary Drive
  • east onto North Sapphire Road to the beach access at Beachstone Cafe.

Green Bluff is still accessible from the south via Rutile trail, off Ivory Circuit in North Sapphire.

Closed areas: Closed roads in multiple north coast national parks due severe weather damage

Some roads are closed in New England National Park, Dunggir National Park and Gumbaynggirr National Park and Station Conservation Area due to ex-tropical cyclone Alfred and other flood events. 

Roadblocks have been installed on Horseshoe Road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north 

Affected roads include:

  • Horseshoe Road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access. Remediation will begin in January 2026 when weather is suitable for equipment access across wet roads. 
  • Gaddes Ridge Road – major landslip, no through access. This road will remain closed indefinitely, after an independent geotechnical engineer's assessment identified an unacceptable risk of ongoing landslip. Please travel via Cedar Road.

These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed. You may need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in these parks. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Safety alerts: Peacock Creek campground access changed

Access to Peacock Creek campground has changed due to deterioration of local roads following the impacts of Cyclone Alfred. See below best options to access the campground whilst repairs and upgrades take place on local roads:

  1. Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive via Bruxner Highway (south) - best access when open, 2WD suitable in dry weather only. Intermittently closed during periods of wet weather.
  2. Sextonville Road via Summerland Way (east) - Currently good access including caravans and long vehicles. However, note it is 2WD suitable in dry weather only.
  3. Iron Pot Creek Road via Kyogle (north) - Currently under traffic control and not suitable for caravans/campertrailers. Good access for most vehicles  from Kyogle via Afterlee Road to the Dam Access Road, then a left turn onto Brays Road, right turn onto Logan's Bridge Road, right turn onto Iron Pot Creek Road. Follow signs to Bonalbo once on Brays Road.
  4. Peacock Creek Road via Clarence way (west) - 4WD only, not recommended for towing. Two steep creek crossings not suitable for 2WD/AWD, badly damaged with large pot holes.

Other incidents: Yabbra NP - Road conditions

South Yabbra Road runs South from Clarence Way providing visitors with an 18km rainforest road experience to the heart of Yabbra National Park. South Yabbra Road is generally suitable for AWD or 4WD vehicles in dry weather conditions and is a no through road (visitors need to return along South Yabbra Road). From the end of South Yabbra Road visitors can walk or cycle along the adjacent management trails to explore further. Joes Box Road, Yabbra Plains Road, Pocupar Road, Bald Knob Road and South Haystack Feeder are management trails where public vehicle access is not permitted. These management trails are periodically closed to visitors for road maintenance or pest management operations with closures notified on NPWS website.

 

Sheas Hut Road provides public vehicle access for a further 10 km however is in poor condition and not promoted.
