NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baiting program targeting wild dogs in Blue Mountains National Park, Glenbrook Precinct. Signs advising of the baiting program will be displayed at entrances to the National Park where baits are located.

The baiting program will begin on or shortly after 8 March 2021 and will continue for a period of one month.

It is a requirement of the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 that domestic animals/pets are not permitted on National Parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

1080 baits will be used in accordance with the 1080 Pesticide Control Order and Pesticide Act and Regulation.

The following areas of Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to bushfire, track works and/or flood damage:

Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls

  • National Pass from Valley of Waters to Slacks Stairs, due to ongoing rockfall risk.
  • Golden Stairs, due to rockfall (track repair works in progress).
  • Part of Amphitheatre track from the base of Bridal Veil falls to Fern Bower, due to ongoing rockfall risk.
  • Prince Henry Cliff walk between Leura Cascades and Tarpeian Rock track junction is closed Tuesdays to Fridays only, until Friday 28 May 2021, due to track maintenance. There is no pedestrian access between Katoomba and Leura within the national park. Walkers accessing Leura Cascades from the east must return by the same route.
  • Prince Henry Cliff Walk between Merriwa Street exit and Honeymoon lookout is closed Tuesdays to Fridays only, until Friday 10 December 2021, due to track maintenance.
  • Prince Henry Cliff walk between Leura Cascades round walk and Leura Cascades picnic area, and between Gordon Falls lookout and Olympian lookout, due to landslides. Detours in place. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Bridal Veil View (east) track is closed for track maintenance.
  • Part of Charles Darwin walk north of Weeping Rock circuit. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Ingar campground can only be accessed via Andersons or Bedford Creek trails on foot, not via Ingar Road. 

Blackheath, Medlow Bath, Mount Victoria and Bells Line

  • Govetts Leap descent and Rodriguez Pass walking track, due to fire damage.
  • Perrys lookdown campground, due to dangerous trees.
  • Walls Cave, Popes Glen and Pulpit Rock, due to fire and flood damage.
  • Wollangambe One Canyon, due to a dangerous whirlpool.

Rock climbing areas

  • Pulpit Rock and all areas that require access along closed walking tracks.

Closed areas: Golden Stairs closed due to major landslide

Golden Stairs is closed due to a major landslide. Federal Pass and Ruined Castle cannot be accessed by this route. Ruined Castle and Mount Solitary can be accessed via Kedumba Pass or Furber Steps.

Rock removal, scaling and site remediation has occurred and NPWS crews have commenced construction work. The work involves track repair and installation of handrailing, which is due for completion in March 2021. Site assessments have determined that further rock falls are possible. Please do not enter this area, as it could be life threatening.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic ground and aerial baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operations will involve the use of meat, manufactured products and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE’s) containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from Thursday 31 December 2020 to Wednesday 30 June 2021 in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

  • Abercrombie National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Wollemi National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park
  • Mares Forest National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve

These programs have been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state focused biosecurity issues. All baiting locations will be signposted.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The Donkey Mountain area of Gardens of Stone National Park is closed due to safety issues arising from severe wildfire and flood events. The steep slopes remain unstable and potential visitors should consider other locations for a safe and enjoyable walking experience.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic ground and aerial baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operations will involve the use of meat, manufactured products and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE’s) containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from Thursday 31 December 2020 to Wednesday 30 June 2021 in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

  • Abercrombie National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Wollemi National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park
  • Mares Forest National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park

These programs have been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state focused biosecurity issues. All baiting locations will be signposted.

Access to the Coorongooba campground is via a causeway through the Capertee River. This causeway is subject to flooding. The Capertee River can rise unexpectedly with heavy rains falling upstream, making the causeway impassable. Please check the weather forecast before leaving home.

Safety alerts: Diversion on Mount Keira Ring track

The staircase on the western side of Mount Keira Road at the junction of Mount Keira Road and Queen Elizabeth Drive has been closed off for repairs. Please follow the relevant signage for a slight detour to the ring track at the crossing of Queen Elizabeth Drive.

If completing the loop in a clockwise direction: head north uphill of the closed staircase for roughly 50m until you come to an opening by the road. Take care crossing the road at this point and re-join the track at the usual entry point to the eastern side of the loop.

If completing the loop in an anticlockwise direction: when you get to Queen Elizabeth Drive crossing head north for roughly 50m from the point of entry to the western side of the loop. Re-join the track at this point.
