The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial shooting program targeting feral deer and other feral animals in part of Dharawal National Park and Dharawal Nature Reserve between Tuesday 27th May to Thursday 29th May 2025.

To ensure the safety of members of the public and NPWS operational staff, the following locations will temporarily be closed to the public while the aerial shooting operation is undertaken:

  • 10B Management Trail - between Bulli-Appin Rd and its junction with 10C Management Trail
  • 10, 10A, 10Q,10R, 10U and 10Z Management Trails; and
  • Maddens Falls Visitor precinct – including Maddens Falls Walking Track, Lookout and picnic area.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an autumn ground baiting program from 7 May 2025 to 25 May 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program will take place in Kosciuszko National park in the following areas:

  • Main range area
  • Charlotte pass
  • Munyang
  • Illawong
  • Dead horse gap

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. Guthega Road will be closed between Island Bend and Guthega (Munyang) Power Station from 7am to 5pm on Monday to Friday during the following periods:

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and contractors will be undertaking upgrade works at Tom Groggin camping area throughout 2025. These works will include additions to campground facilities, including fire pits and picnic tables, rehabilitation planting, restoration of damaged campground surfaces, and construction of a new shelter at the day use area. 

As a result, some areas of the lower campground will be closed to camping throughout winter 2025 to allow surfaces to rehabilitate. The majority of Tom Groggin will remain open to camping.

Cycle routes in Conjola National Park may currently be unsuitable for some cyclists due to recent roadworks. There are many sections of large ballast rock that have been used in boggy areas that may be difficult for cyclists to negotiate. It is hoped these will silt up over time and be more suitable for cyclists.

Fire-affected areas

Some sections of Kosciuszko National Park which burnt during the 2019/2020 fires remain closed. These areas include:

  • Wolgal and Pattinson's Huts

Huts that burnt down in the 2020 fires

These locations remain open, but the following huts or buildings have been lost:

  • Linesman's No.3 Huts, Round Mountain Hut, and Dry Dam Ski Shelter.
  • Warning: Please take care as there may be broken glass/nails that are uncovered since NPWS made records and cleaned up these sites. Please do not disturb the sites or remove artefacts.

Snowy 2.0 works affecting access to Tantangara Road and Tantangara Dam

  • Access to the southern end of Tantangara Reservoir via Quarry trail is closed to the public.
  • Access to the southern end boat ramp is open, but may be subject to short-term closures.
  • Current boating and camping access to Tantangara Reservoir will still be available at access points on the northern end of the reservoir, via Port Phillip and Dam trails.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is disposing of used 1080 baits and baiting products in an approved disposal pit on NPWS National Parks land within the Fitzroy Falls area.

The burial of used baits and products will occur from Thursday 12 December 2024 to Wednesday 11 June 2025. All bait material in the pit will be buried under at least 500mm of soil, and clear of waterways so as not to cause pollution of waterways. This is in accordance with the current Pesticide Control Order (1080 bait products).

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to the disposal pit site.

Safety alerts: Potential difficulties for cyclists navigating Beehive Walking Track

Cyclists undertaking the Fitzroy Falls to Kangaroo Valley cycling route are advised that there may be difficulties riding Beehive Walking Track, which provides one of two access routes to Beehive Campground. The original track has been closed to vehicles with many large logs impeding access. Alternative riding access to Beehive Campground is possible via Jack's Corner Road and Beehive Point Road.

 

This closure only affects cyclists wishing to access Beehive Point Campground. Walkers are not impacted by this closure and cyclists may choose to walk the trail with their bikes, lifting them over logs when required.

Cullendulla Beach is changing shape from the impacts of coastal erosion.

During high tide, walking access via the beach into Cullendulla Creek Nature Reserve from the carpark on Myamba Parade may be restricted by the ocean.

While in the reserve, visitors should continue to monitor conditions and time their walk with a lower tide.

Tide predictions for Batemans Bay are found on the Bureau of Meteorology website.

Closed areas: Camping areas closed due to flood and fire damage

Camping is closed indefinitely at the following campgrounds due to fire damage and flooding. The closed campground include (open for day-use only): 

  • Pauls Point
  • Sundeck 
  • Sawyers 
  • Burrawang

Please note that the campgrounds will remain open for day use. Some campgrounds may be affected by flood debris following heavy rain, and there may be steep sand walls to access sites.

Please be cautious and move onto another campground if safety issues occur. There have been many changes to campgrounds along the river, including reduced campground capacity. Some sites also have extensive regrowth following fires.
