Closed areas: Thredbo Valley track partial closure

Following recent rainfall, additional sections of Thredbo Valley track have been closed.

The following sections are closed to cyclists:

  • Thredbo Resort to Bullocks Flat
  • Muzzlewood track
  • Bullocks Flat to Gaden Trout Hatchery.

These sections remain open to walkers, however please take care as soft and slippery surfaces.occur.

Thredbo Valley track between Gaden Trout Hatchery and Thredbo River picnic area remains open to cyclists and walkers.

Conditions will be reassessed once this system passes and surfaces dry out, however as winter approaches closures will extend along the track. Please continue to check alerts and obey all signage. Follow IMBA Guidelines and don't ride on wet tracks.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting feral animal control operations in some parts of this park. Areas will be closed from 8am Monday 25 May to 11:59pm Friday 29 May 2026.

Closure notices will be placed at relevant access points. Do not enter the closed areas. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

The following areas will be closed:

  • Thredbo Valley Track from Thredbo Resort to Bullocks Flat
  • Muzzlewood Track
  • Bullocks Track
  • Ngarigo Campground
  • Thredbo Diggings Campground
  • Ranger Station Precinct
  • All powerline maintenance tracks between Bullocks Flat and Thredbo Resort.

Closed areas: Thredbo Diggings Campground Pre-Winter Closures

Thredbo Diggings Campground will be closed to all visitors from 8am Monday 18 May 2026 until 12pm Saturday 30 May 2026.

This closure is to ensure important pre-winter maintenance can be completed.

Closed areas: Illawong Trackhead closed to vehicles for upgrade

The Guthega Track Head vehicle drop off area and turning circle is closed to vehicles for construction works from Monday 10 October 2025  to Friday 1 May 2026. 

Walkers can still access the Snowies Alpine Walk and Illawong Walk. NPWS are constructing a new toilet facility at the Guthega Track Head.

Safety alerts: Thredbo Alpine Village pindone rabbit control program

Kosciuszko Thredbo (KT) will be conducting a baiting program using carrots containing pindone (pindone, sodium salt) poison for the control of rabbits. The program will take place between Monday20 April 2026 and Friday 22 May 2026 at Thredbo Alpine Village, within Kosciuszko National Park.

All baiting locations will be signposted. Free feeding using non-poisoned carrots will be undertaken before using pindone carrots.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets may be affected by pindone. Pets must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance

Other planned events: Notification of ongoing 1080 baiting - wild dogs and foxes

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing baiting program from Thursday 5 February 2026 to Thursday 2 February 2027. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. This program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Baiting programs will take place across Kosciuszko National Park Wild Dog Plan Areas including:

  • Thredbo/Ingebyra
  • Dalgety/Paupong
  • Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah

Baiting programs will also take place in nature reserves including:

  • Paupong Nature Reserve
  • Merriangaah Nature Reserve
  • Quidong Nature Reserves

This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park:

  • Thredbo Valley
  • Moonbah
  • Ingebyra
  • Paupong
  • Numbla Vale
  • Corrowong

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

  • in the Thredbo-Perisher area of Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains region
  • The Thredbo-Perisher area is open all year, but some roads and trails may close due to weather conditions or park management issues. Kosciuszko Road is closed between Perisher and Charlotte Pass in winter (June to October long weekends).
  • Park entry fees apply on Alpine Way and Kosciuszko Road

    Winter (June to October long weekends): $29 per vehicle per day (24hrs from purchase); motorcycles $12; bus passengers $11.45 per adult, $3.60 per child per day. Find out more about the winter entry surcharge.

    Rest of Year: $17 per vehicle per day (24hrs); motorcycles $7; bus passengers $6.60 per adult, $2.20 per child per day.

    Passes: Day passes, multi-day passes and annual All Parks Pass available from NPWS visitor centres, local agents and operating vehicle entry stations.
