The operations will use meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Eastern Access Tweed Range Scenic Drive Closed

The  Tweed Range Scenic Drive will be closed from the Brindle Creek Loop Road to the eastern entrance at  Barkers Vale until 30 May 2025 for road works.

There will be no access to the Pinnacle Lookout, Blackbutts Lookout and Bar Mountain during these roadworks.

Access via the Wiangaree and Lynches Creek entrance will remain open to Sheepstation Creek, Forest Tops and Brindle Creek.

This closure may be extended due to weather events. Please follow all signs and directions of NPWS staff. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Bindarray picnic area is closed due to road flooding. The Urumbilum river is experiencing high flows across the causeway, making crossing unsafe. 

The river level will be monitored and the road reopened when safe.

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will be closed for works from Monday 28 April to Saturday 31 May 2025 due to road repair works.

Teleco Companies & related persons that require access to Mount Babyl trail and tower area, can access from the north only for the duration of the closure. Permission for access via the Bruxner Highway during works must be sought from the ranger through the NPWS Kyogle Office.

The private Airbnb cabin off Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will not be accessible via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive for the duration of the closure, contact the owner for more information.

Closed areas: Park closed due to roadworks

To allow for flood recovery roadworks to be conducted the primary access road to most visitor facilities in Washpool NP, Coachwood Drive, will be closed from 7am Thursday 1 May until 5pm Friday 23 May 2025. Due to this closure Bellbird and Coombadjha campgrounds, the Coachwood picnic area, and all walks that depart from these locations are also closed.

This road closure will not impact the World Heritage Walk, but for visitors intending to undertake the Walk during this time please contact the NPWS Northern Tablelands Area office on 02 6739 0700 to discuss camping options.

This closure does not extend to Four Bull Hut or the horse riding trails in the north-west area of Washpool NP.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program from Monday 12 May 2025 to Friday 23 May 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of feral animals including wild dogs and foxes.
The program will take place in Avondale State Conservation Area (SCA), Back River Nature Reserve (NR), Booralong NR, Bulagaranda (Mt Yarrowyck) Aboriginal Area (AA), Cottan-Bimbang National Park (NP) & SCA, Curracubundi NP, Indwarra NP, Mummel Gulf NP & SCA, Ngulin NR, Nowendoc NP, Oxley Wild Rivers NP & SCA, Single NP, The Basin NR, Tomalla NR, Tuggolo Creek NR, Warrabah NP and Werrikimbe NP.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. Clarence Valley Council are conducting extensive roadworks closing the Old Grafton Road (Old Glen Innes Road) between Newton Boyd and Buccarumbi. Access to Dalmorton campground is by the Old Grafton Road from the Glen Innes (Western) end only, or from Chaelundi Road from the south. To access Chaelundi Road you will need to either enter via Marengo Road at Hernani, or via Sheepstation Creek Road at Dundurrabin. These roads are only suitable for 4WD vehicles and off-road caravans.

Please be aware this closure may add significantly to travel time to and from the campground. At this stage works are scheduled until the end of June 2025.

Culmaran Valley Track will be partially closed from 17 April 2025 due to cyclone damage with a full closure scheduled for May whilst repairs take place. The trail is expected to re-open by 7 June in time for the June long weekend.

The Culmaran Loop Walk will remain open until the full repair works in May and will re-open inline with the main Valley Track.

Cambridge Plateau picnic area will remain open and accessible for visitors during track works.

Alternative walks are available at Border Ranges National Park and Toonumbar National Park.

Safety alerts: Peacock Creek campground access changed

Access to Peacock Creek campground has changed due to deterioration of local roads following the impacts of Cyclone Alfred. See below best options to access the campground whilst repairs and upgrades take place on local roads:

  1. Iron Pot Creek Road via Kyogle (north) - All weather best access is from Kyogle via Afterlee Road to the Dam Access Road, then a left turn onto Brays Road, right turn onto Logan's Bridge Road, right turn onto Iron Pot Creek Road. Follow signs to Bonalbo once on Brays Road.
  2. Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive via Bruxner Highway (south) - best access when open, 2WD suitable in dry weather only. Intermittently closed during periods of wet weather. *closed until April 17 due to repair works, check relevant alert for more details.
  3. Sextonville Road via Summerland Way (east) - suitable for 4WDs only, badly damaged with large pot holes and deep ruts. Repair works soon to commence, check for alerts.
  4. Peacock Creek Road via Clarence way (west) - 4WD only, not recommended for towing. Two steep creek crossings not suitable for 2WD/AWD, narrow weed affected road sections, badly damaged with large pot holes.

The Border Loop Lookout and walking track will be closed to all visitors to allow for essential roadworks on the Lions Road.

The Lions Road will be closed to all visitors between Standfield's Bridge at Cougal and the Queensland border.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Closed areas: Toonumbar Forest Drive & Coxs Road Closure

Toonumbar Forest Drive and Coxs Road are closed until winter 2025. Estimated re-opening date is June following completion of maintenance works. 

Both roads are not safely trafficable in wet conditions and are therefore seasonally closed from late spring until late autumn dependant on rainfall during the wet season. There may also be additional closures during forecast weather events and damage during the winter period.
