Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Other planned events: Pest control operation - wild dog trapping

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting trapping operations of wild dogs in Kwiambal National Park and Severn River Nature Reserve.

This trapping program will run from Tuesday 5 November to Wednesday 20 November 2019. It will reduce the impacts of wild dogs on wildlife in the park and on neighbouring stock.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves.

Some areas of this park are closed due to a bushfire nearby. The fire is burning on the southern side of Gwydir Highway in Gibraltar Range National Park.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed due to demolition of bridge from past flooding event. This closure applies until further notice. Closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away, at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
