Creegans Road access to the Eastern entrance of Border Ranges NP, has deteriorated due to recent weather events.  The road is rough in sections due to erosion, visitors are advised to proceed with caution.  It is not recommended for buses or caravans.

Closed areas: Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive partial closure

Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive is closed between Mount Babyl north to Peacock Creek Road until approximately Friday 10 July due to wet conditions. 

The following facilities will remain open

Please use Iron Pot Creek Road or Sextonville Road to access Peacock Creek campground as there will be no access via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive until the road re-opens.

Telco Companies & related persons that require access to Mount Babyl trail and tower area, can access Mount Babyl using a KRB key only.

The private Airbnb cabin off Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive will remain accessible via Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive from the south via the Bruxner Highway, contact the owner for more information.

Safety alerts: Peacock Creek campground access limitations

Access to Peacock Creek campground is limited for some vehicles during inclement weather due to deterioration of local roads. See below best options to access the campground whilst repairs and upgrades take place on local roads:

  1. Cambridge Plateau Forest Drive via Bruxner Highway (south) - best access when open, 2WD suitable in dry weather only. Intermittently closed during periods of wet weather.
  2. Sextonville Road via Summerland Way (East) - Most weather access suitable for most vehicles. /**/
  3. Iron Pot Creek Road via Kyogle (north) - Suitable for all vehicles in most weather. Drive from Kyogle towards Toonumbar on Afterlee Road to the Dam Access Road, then turn left onto Brays Road, right onto Logan's Bridge Road and right onto Iron Pot Creek Road. Follow signs to Bonalbo once on Brays Road.
  4. Peacock Creek Road via Clarence way (west) - 4WD only, not suitable for towing. Two steep creek crossings not suitable for 2WD/AWD, badly damaged road surface with very large pot holes.

Closed areas: Toonumbar National Park Temporary Closure

Murrays Scrub Road and Murray Scrub car park road will be closed Tuesday 7 to Friday 10 July 2026 to allow for repair work to the road. The road will be closed from the intersection of Murray Scrub Rd and Stringybark Lane from 7am each Monday until 2pm on Friday 10 July.

Iron Pot Creek Campground and Murray Scrub walking track will not be accessible during the above dates, reopening 2pm Friday 10 July.

Visitors using Murray Scrub Road to access inholdings should be aware large trucks and machinery may intermittently be travelling along Murray Scrub Road. All road users should drive to conditions and be aware of additional traffic and large vehicles.

Closed areas: Horse riding trails closed for safety

Due to ongoing safety and welfare issues surrounding accessibility and water supply the Dthinna Dthinnawan horse riding trails remain closed until further notice.

Peacock Road will be subject to road repair works from 22 June to approximately 18 July which may cause some delays and temproary closures.

Works will occur during business hours, Monday to Friday with traffic management in place.

Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road will be closed until approximately 20 July due to wet conditions and roadworks.

Sherwood lookout and Murray Scrub lookout remain closed until the roads are re-opened. Iron Pot Creek campground and Murray Scrub walking track are only accessible via Murray Scrub Road from Afterlee.

Both roads are not safely trafficable in wet conditions and are therefore closed during forecast weather events and damage during the winter period.

Other incidents: Yabbra NP - Road conditions

South Yabbra Road runs South from Clarence Way providing visitors with an 18km rainforest road experience to the heart of Yabbra National Park. South Yabbra Road is generally suitable for AWD or 4WD vehicles in dry weather conditions and is a no through road (visitors need to return along South Yabbra Road). From the end of South Yabbra Road visitors can walk or cycle along the adjacent management trails to explore further. Joes Box Road, Yabbra Plains Road, Pocupar Road, Bald Knob Road and South Haystack Feeder are management trails where public vehicle access is not permitted. These management trails are periodically closed to visitors for road maintenance or pest management operations with closures notified on NPWS website.

 

Sheas Hut Road provides public vehicle access for a further 10 km however is in poor condition and not promoted.

 

There are frequent tree falls along these roads and visitors are advised to avoid during wet weather events or strong winds. For further information contact the Kyogle NPWS office on (02) 6632 0000.

Safety alerts: Construction Works Along Bike Trails

Please be advised scheduled construction works will be underway along the bike trails in Currys Gap State Conservation Area from 25 May 2026 to 30 September 2026.

Work hours are :

  • Mon-Fri: 6:00am to 6:00pm
  • Saturdays: 6:00am to 1:00pm

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.
