National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will commence a 1080 ground and aerial baiting program on the 1st April to 30th June 2024 on the following reserves:

The operations will use meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Boonoo Boonoo Falls Picnic Area and Parts of the River Walk Closed for Construction

Boonoo Boonoo Falls Road is closed approximately 2km south of the Boonoo Boonoo Falls picnic area from 7am Monday 29 April 2024 until 5pm Friday 14 June 2024. This closure extends to the Boonoo Boonoo Falls Picnic Area, Rockpools View walk, Falls Lookout walk, Rockpool Ramble walk, Boonoo Boonoo Falls Lookout, and 2km of the River walk, north of Link Road.

Other planned events: Road maintenance works on T-Ridge Road in Nymboida National Park.

Road and roadside vegetation maintenance works will be occurring on T-Ridge Road and around the Nymboida River Campground from Monday 20 May until Tuesday 28 May 2024, pending weather.

Please comply with advisory signage. Vehicles will be able to access and the the Nymboida River Campground remains open during these works. For more information, contact the NPWS Grafton Area office.

Closed areas: Granite lookout and picnic area closed for roadworks

To allow for roadworks to be undertaken Granites Trail, off Coachwood Drive in Washpool NP, will be closed from Monday 22 April until Friday 24 May 2024. Access to Granite walk and lookout, and the Granite picnic area will be unavailable during this closure.

Closed areas: Park closed due to roadworks

To allow for flood recovery roadworks to be conducted the primary access road to most visitor facilities in Washpool NP, Coachwood Drive, will be closed from 7am Monday 29 April until 2pm Friday 24 May 2024. Due to this closure Bellbird and Coombadjha campgrounds, the Coachwood picnic area, and all walks that depart from these locations are also closed.

This road closure will not impact the World Heritage Walk, but for visitors intending to undertake the Walk during this time please contact the NPWS Northern Tablelands Area office on 02 6739 0700 to discuss camping options.

This closure does not extend to Four Bull Hut or the horse riding trails in the north-west area of Washpool NP.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Butterleaf Road, the access road into Butterleaf NP through the adjoining State Forest, is in very poor condition, and access is restricted to 4WD only. Please exercise caution and drive to conditions.
