  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

Closed areas: Section of Glow Worm Tunnel Walking Track Closed

The section of Glow Worm Tunnel walking track from the Glow Worm Tunnel exit to the 'four ways' intersection, Wolgan Valley will remain closed until further notice.

Recent heavy rainfall has caused landslips along this section of Glow Worm Tunnel walking track.

The Glow Worm Tunnel can still be accessed via the Glow Worm Tunnel carpark. Newnes Industrial Ruins and the Newnes Campgrounds can only be accessed via the Pipeline Track from Glen Davis or via Old Coach Road from Newnes Plateau.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Friday 2 May 2025 to Friday 1 May 2026 in the following areas:

  • Abercrombie River National Park
  • Abercrombie River State Conservation Area
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park (southern section)
  • Wollemi National Park (Wolga)
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Area
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Forest Campground precinct closure

The area west of Glowworm Tunnel Road from Western Boundary Road to Fire Trail No. 1 will be closed from Monday 28 July 2025 for construction of visitor infrastructure works. The closure will be in place for at least 12 months while works continue. Access to Broad Swamp walking tracks remains open. 

During the closure, there is no public access to:

  • Western Boundary Road
  • Red Hill Road
  • Camp Road
  • Newnes Afforestation Camp
  • Any roads within the closed area including access to the southern end of Carne Creek Canyon

Closures are in place to enable the construction of:

  • Forest Campground (at the old Newnes Afforestation Camp Ruins) which will include 50 bookable sites, group campground and picnic area
  • Upgrading roads for 2WD access
  • Rehabilitation of damaged and eroded areas

 

Information for camping:

Bush camping is allowed at sites further than 200 metres from park infrastructure such as roads, walking tracks and lookouts.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) and fresh meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The 1080 bating program is ongoing and will continue to be conducted between 01 September 2025 and 28 February 2026 within Winburndale Nature Reserve. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected and must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity of the nature reserve and must not enter the baiting location (as 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Berowra walking track is partially closed from Apple Tree Bay to the Mt-Ku-ring-gai access track until further notice. There is a threat of rockfalls due to slope instability caused by recent weather events. NPWS is in the process of carrying out necessary repair works.

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. The closed area is between the suspension bridge and Bundilla Lookout on the western side of Piles Creek.
