Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed

Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.

Katoomba and Leura

  • Katoomba Kiosk Reserve, Reids Plateau and Round Walk east are closed to due to Council upgrades. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website
  • Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards. (Visible bridge from Echo Point. Side route off Three Sisters Track and Giant Stairs).
  • Furber Steps walk and Round walking track (full loop) are closed from Wednesday 20 May to Tuesday 30 June 2026, for track upgrade works. There will be no access to Federal Pass from these tracks. Alternative access/exits are via Fern Bower, Giant Stairway,  or Scenic World (costs apply). Visitors can also access Federal Pass from Golden Stairs however access via these routes is more adventurous and remote. 
  • Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. There is no vehicle access to Golden Stairs trackhead. Walkers and cyclists are permitted.
  • Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck) south of Pumphouse Trail Golden Stairs, Federal Pass (from Golden Stairs to Scenic World Valley Stations), will be closed intermittently for a helicopter operation from 3 June to 4 June 2026. Delays should be expected.    
  • Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
  • Six Foot track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve. Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (including the Caves Visitor Precinct) is closed until 31 December 2026. There is no access to the entire reserve during this time.  
  • Mt Hay Road will be closed from Tuesday 9 June to Thursday 17 December 2026 for Fire Trail upgrades. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access during this time.

Wentworth Falls and Woodford  

  • Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
  • Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls routes. 
  • Valley of the Waters is closed below Silvia Falls due rockfall hazards. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls.
  • Princes Rock walking track is closed for maintenance until 30 June 2026. Princes Rock lookout is however accessible from Overcliff/Undercliff track.
  • Fletchers lookout is closed for maintenance until 30 June 2026.
  • Lincolns Rock is closed. For details visit the Blue Mountains City Council website.
  • Kings Tableland Road from the park gate out to McMahons Point will be closed to all traffic from Monday 1 June until Friday 12 June 2026 to allow for road works. Open to all traffic on weekends, including from Saturday 6 June to Monday 8 June.  
  • Winbourne fire trail (L6) in Woodford will be closed for maintenance from Monday 25 May to Friday 26 June 2026.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road 

  • Green Gully precinct including Dunphys Campground and Galong Cabins is closed for road upgrade works until 15 June 2026 (weather dependent). This means there is no access to the K-2-K, Iron Pot Route, Breakfast Creek, Ironmonger Route or Bellbird Ridge Fire Trail. 
  • Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
  • Govetts descent and parts of Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Valley access from Blackheath is via Horse Track.
  • Grand Canyon walking track will be closed from Monday 15th June until Wednesday 17th June to allow for parking and road works.  This include no access to the Horse Track. Parking only available at Grand Canyon carpark.  
  • Evans Lookout and Evans Lookout Road (within the Blue Mountains NP) will be closed from Tuesday 16th June until Friday 19th June to allow for road and parking repairs.  Walkers accessing Evans Lookout via the Clifftop track will have to return the same way.  

Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

Juggler (aka Point Pilcher) Canyon exit has been affected by a recent rockfall event. Canyoners should use caution and exit around the impact site.  

Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

Closed parks: Yuranaigh's Aboriginal Grave Closed for Upgrades and conservation

Yuranigh's Aboriginal Grave HS will be closed from 8am Wednesday 3 June through to 8 am 19 June 2026 due to visitor upgrades and conservation activities.

The front gate to the site will be locked. There will be no access by vehicle or on foot.

Closed areas: Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area closures and partial closures

Several areas within Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area are closed or under traffic management due to ongoing roadworks and visitor infrastructure upgrades. These measures are in place to support public safety while new and improved visitor infrastructure is under development.

 

State Mine Gully Road

  • State Mine Gully Road is closed to the public between Dobbs Drift and Lost City Road to enable road upgrade works. Visitors cannot access Gardens of Stone SCA or Wollemi National Park via State Mine Gully Road during this closure.

    State Mine Gully Road at Dobbs Drift will be open for public access over the long weekend from 5:00pm Friday 5 June until Tuesday 9 June 2026.

 

  • Traffic management is in place on State Mine Gully Road between Lost City Road and Old Bells Line of Road to support road upgrade works. Reduced speed limits and temporary traffic lights are in operation and increased heavy vehicle movements should be expected. Please allow extra travel time and follow all signage and traffic control directions.

 

Alternative access to the park is via Old Bells Line of Road, including access to Lost City Lookout (south), Lost City walking track and Glow Worm Tunnel.

 

Lost City North

Lost City North Lookout is closed from Monday 19 May through to July for carpark and lookout upgrades. There will be no vehicle or pedestrian access during this time.

 

Forest Campground precinct

The area west of Glow Worm Tunnel Road, from Western Boundary Road to Fire Trail No. 1, is closed to support the development of a major new visitor precinct. New visitor infrastructure includes major road upgrades, a family-friendly campground, and cycling and walking experiences.

There is no public access to:

  • Western Boundary Road
  • Red Hill Road
  • Camp Road
  • Newnes Afforestation Camp
  • All roads within the closed area, including access to the southern end of Carne Creek Canyon
  • Broad Swamp Car Park

 

Walking tracks

The following walking tracks are temporarily closed due to construction and maintenance works:

  • Broad Swamp Loop Walk
  • Broad Swamp to Birds Rock Walking Track (Pagoda Walk – Section 1)

 

Camping information

Bush camping is permitted at sites located more than 200 metres from park infrastructure, including walking tracks and lookouts.

Visitors are advised to plan ahead, check the NPWS website before travelling for the latest updates, and follow all on-site signage and directions.

Closed areas: Coolah Tops – Roads closed due to wet conditions

Roads east of the Forest Road - Hildegarde Road intersection in Coolah Tops National Park are closed to vehicle traffic from 25 May 2026 due to wet road conditions, and will reopen in September or once road conditions improve.

 

The closed roads are dry weather vehicle access only and are closed annually during the winter months due to prolonged wet conditions. Visitors can still access trails and visitor facilities on foot or by bicycle.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program will take place in Wollemi National Park (in Jerrys Plains / Appletree Flat area) and Manobalai Nature Reserve.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a ground baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) that contain 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes. The program will be ongoing between Tuesday 1 March 2026 to Wednesday 31 August 2026 along management trails in Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area and Goobang National park.

Readily identifiable 1080 poison signs have been positioned at trail entry points or trail junctions as well as other appropriate locations throughout the reserve.

Maynggu Ganai Historic Site consist of three separate management precincts - locally referred to as the Government House Block, the Military Barracks Block and the Well Block. Please be advised that the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) undertakes regular and ongoing weed spraying operations across these three areas. These weed management works include (but are not limited too) spraying of all of the boundary and timber bollard fence lines and internal walking track routes with Roundup Biactive and Associate (being glyphosate and metsulfuron chemical products respectively). These works are conducted in order to; control exotic grasses and environmental weeds, assist with grounds maintenance activities such as mowing and improve the aesthetics of the site. In addition, NPWS staff then treat other emerging weeds on a cases by case basis, such as St Johns Wort using Grazon Extra.

Haulage trucks are in operation along Old Bells Line of Rd between the park entrance near Chifley Road (Zig Zag Railway) and Clarence Sands during the following times:

• Monday to Friday: 04.00 to 18.00

• Saturday: 04.00 to 13.00

 

During these times road users are reminded to:

• drive with caution

• adhere to the speed limit of 40 km/hr

• listen for truck movements via UHF-11

Ongoing wet weather has impacted the roads in this reserve, leaving them washed out and/or under water for long periods of time. Golden Gully will be closed to users when weather forecasts predict 20mm or more of rainfall within a 24 hour period. Erosion and hazards may be present within the gully during and following significant and prolonged periods of rainfall. Please take care and follow on site signage.
