Closed areas: Polblue campground closed for camping

Polblue campground will be closed for general camping from 9am Friday 1 November until 2pm Sunday 3 November 2019. This is to facilitate set up and running of the Barrington Tops 50th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday 2 November. 

Alternative camping will be available at:

  • Devils Hole campground and Horse Swamp campground (2WD)
  • Little Murray, Junction Pools and Gummi Falls campgrounds (4WD only)

Polblue Swamp walk will remain open during the weekend as will the Polblue picnic area (day use area) with toilets and gas BBQs.

A park fire ban is in place in:

  • Abercrombie River National Park
  • Abercrombie River State Conservation Area

This park fire ban remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

A park fire ban is in place in this park from Sunday 1 September 2019 and remains in effect until Tuesday 31 March 2020.

However Dunns Swamp, Newnes,Coorongooba, Burralow and Colo Meroo campgrounds are exempt.

During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be undertaking a wild dog and fox control program in Parr State Conservation Area. Canid Pest Ejectors will be laid from Monday 30 April to Wednesday 30 October 2019. Do not touch baits or ejector devices.

1080 poison is lethal to dogs and cats. Park visitors and neighbours are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in national parks or nature reserves at any time. It is recommended that you tie your dogs up during this time if they like to roam. If you suspect your domestic dog has been in the park and triggered an ejector, take them to a vet immediately. Warning signs will be displayed to notify park visitors.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It has been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.
