Closed areas: Turkey Farm Hazard Reduction Burn - Fire Trails Closed, Trinkey State Conservation Area

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a Hazard Reduction Burn within Trinkey State Conservation Area called Turkey Farm HR. This burn is anticipated to commence 7 May 2025.

The hazard reduction burn will be approximately 1400ha in size and located approximately 15km east of Tambar Springs. Ground and aerial (helicopter) ignition may occur. Smoke may be visible for a week after the burn. A partial park closure will be in place during burning operations and the roads will remain closed until 24 May 2025, or until the area is assessed as safe.

Closures will apply to the following fire trails close to and surrounding the HR within Trinkey SCA during burning. Road closure signs will indicate location of closures on trails within Trinkey SCA.

 -Eastern Boundary South Road

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a Hazard Reduction Burn within Trinkey State Conservation Area called Waitara HR. This burn is anticipated to commence 8 May 2025.

The hazard reduction burn will be approximately 630ha in size and located approximately 15km east of Tambar Springs. Ground and aerial (helicopter) ignition may occur. Smoke may be visible for a week after the burn. A partial park closure will be in place during burning operations and the area will remain closed until 24 May 2025, or until the area is assessed as safe.

The following trail closures in Trinkey SCA close to and surrounding the HR will apply during burning. Road closure signs will indicate specific closure locations on the ground.

Forest Road between Coolah Creek Road and the entrance of Coolah Tops National Park is managed and maintained by Warrumbungle Shire Council. Major roadwork is currently being undertaken on this section of road and is anticipated to be completed by October 2026.

During this time:

  • The road may be impassable during and after wet weather
  • The road may not be suitable for 2wd vehicles and caravans

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service carries out ongoing 1080 ground baiting in Warrumbungle National Park for the control of foxes. Meat baits and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 sodium fluoroacetate poison are laid in the Park. In addition to this, an aerial baiting program is also carried out periodically to reach inaccessible areas also north of Timor Road/John Renshaw Parkway.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Washouts on Kaputar Road

There are significant washouts on the gravel section of Kaputar Rd in Mount Kaputar National Park.

Washouts can be harmful to vehicles and passengers. Please travel this section of road with caution and drive through washouts at very low speed.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing aerial baiting program in Mount Kaputar National Park from Tuesday 4 March to Tuesday 5 August 2025. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock. Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location.

Domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
