Closed areas: Areas closed due to flood damage

Some parts of this park are closed from Monday 29 November to Friday 3 December 2021 due to flood damage. The closed areas are:

  • Sculptures in the Scrub walking track, picnic area and campground.
  • Salt Caves tower, picnic area and campground.
  • No.1 Break Road
  • Rocky Road

Other roads may be damaged or impassable in the Pilliga Forest. Do not drive through floodwaters.

Closed areas: Areas closed for aerial pest control operation

National Parks and Wildlife Service (Castlereagh Area) will be conducting an aerial pest control operation in Warrumbungle National Park between Monday 29 November and Wednesday 1 December 2021.

Some areas in the National Park will be closed during this time, and some walking tracks and visitor facilities may not be accessible for 1-2 days.  

The following areas will remain open for the duration of the operation:

  • Wambelong Nature Track
  • Timor Rock & Timor Firetrail
  • Campers Link Track
  • Whitegum Walking Track and Lookout
  • Gurianawa Track
  • Warrumbungle Visitor Information Centre
  • Canyon picnic area
  • Tara Cave Track
  • The Woolshed carpark and picnic area
  • Belougery flats circuit
  • Belougery Trail
  • Middle Belougery Trail
  • Camp Blackman
  • Camp Walaay
  • Camp Wambelong

Safety alerts: Heavy rainfall may result in flooding

Please be aware widespread rain across western NSW may result in rivers and creeks rising rapidly and damage to roads.

Closed areas: Belougery Split Rock walking track closed

Belougery Split Rock walking track will be closed for maintenance from Wednesday 20 October until further notice. The walking track will reopen in the coming months and this alert will be updated soon with an estimated reopening date.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) carries out continuous 1080 baiting in Warrumbungle National Park for the control of foxes. Meat baits and canid pest ejectors (CPE's) containing 1080 sodium fluoroacetate poison are laid in the park north of Timor Road/John Renshaw Parkway.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

This program protects the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. For more information, contact the NPWS Castlereagh area office on 02 6843 4000.

If you plan to camp at remote campsites along the Grand High Tops walk after 1 June 2020 you'll need to make a booking first. This also applies to campgrounds that did not require bookings previously.
