NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas from Sunday 22 May to Sunday 5 June 2022:

  • Barakee National Park
  • Barakee State Conservation Area
  • Biriwal Bulga National Park
  • Bugan Nature Reserve
  • Ghin-Doo-Ee National Park
  • Goonook Nature Reserve
  • Talawahl Nature Reserve
  • Talawahl State Conservation Area
  • Tapin Tops National Park
  • Wallamba Nature Reserve 

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The upper section of Tomaree Summit walking track and lookout will be temporarily closed for two days on Tuesday 28 June 2022 and Wednesday 29 June 2022.

The Tomaree Summit walking track is being upgraded by NPWS.

Lower sections of the Summit walk up to the first staircase and the Tomaree Forts and gun emplacements remain accessible and open to visitors.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning to undertake important weed control at Crowdy Gap Campground on Monday 27th June 2022.

The program is designed to reduce infestations of invasive weeds species such as bitou bush, lantana and morning glory. 

Signs will be placed at the entry to the spraying location. Access along the walking track to the beach may be impacted on this day.

Closed areas: Gloucester Tops Rd closed beyond campground

Gloucester Tops Rd will be closed beyond the Gloucester River campground to all visitors from Monday 27th June to Friday 1st July 2022 so as to allow NPWS to safely undertake major road maintenance works. This closure means there will be no visitor access to Gloucester Tops during this period.  The closure may be extended if weather conditions impact on the planned works.

Gloucester River campground and picnic area remain open during this time, as do the Sharpes Creek and Gloucester River walking tracks.

NPWS recommends that access to Gloucetser Tops Road is by SUV/4WD only, beyond the campground. Due to both weather and bridge weight restrictions over the last 12 months, NPWS has been unable to undertake the necessary maintenance required. Now that the bridge has been repaired, roadworks are scheduled (weather permitting) for the next couple of months.

Other incidents: Main access road to Barrington Tops Plateau closed from Gloucester

The main access road to Barrington Tops Plateau from Gloucester has been closed by NSW Forestry Corporation until further notice due to serious damage caused during a weather event.

You can only access campgrounds and visitor precincts located on the plateau from the western side via Scone. Barrington Tops Forest Road (also known as the Scone-Gloucester Road) is closed between Cobark Park picnic area and Dilgry Circle intersection. There is no access from Gloucester to Scone on this road.

Road re-opening dates are unknown at this stage, however NSW Forestry Corporation is working on restoring the road. This media release has more information.

Williams Top Road has been closed by Forestry Corporation of NSW (FCNSW) due to a landslip. The closure affects access to the following areas in this park:

  • Rocky Crossing walk

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

The program will involve the use of 1080 poison baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison (including meat baits and meat bait products) for the control of wild dogs and foxes. This program is designed to minimise the impacts of wild dogs and foxes on livestock and native wildlife, especially threatened species.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS Estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Closed areas: Temporary track closures due to Tomaree Coastal Walk upgrades

NPWS will be temporarily closing several sections of existing walking tracks in Tomaree National Park due to the Tomaree Coastal Walk project.

NPWS is currently working on the track sections between Fingal Bay and Boat Harbour including:

  • building a new coastal track section to link Boat Harbour and One Mile Track.
  • upgrades and maintenance along Fingal Ridge Trail, Ocean Track and One Mile Track.

These tracks are closed and will remain closed until mid-July 2022 when works are finished, weather and site conditions permitting.

During the construction period for this section of track NPWS will conduct occasional helicopter lift operations transporting track building materials.

Wallingat campground access is off The Lakes Way via Sugar Creek Road and River Road. Do not use Barbies Road or Link Road which are inaccessible to vehicles.

Closed areas: Box Beach carpark night closure

Box Beach carpark is closed to vehicles from 10pm to 5am daily. The gate will be locked during these times.

Box Beach Access Road is also closed to vehicles during this period.

A fee will be charged for vehicles exiting after 10pm. Please call Certis Security on 1300 370 145 for assistance.
