Safety alerts: 1080 wild dog control program underway in the Dungog area
NSW National Parks will be using 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) for wild dog control as buried baits and capsules in ejector devices. Baits will be laid in Monkerai Nature Reserve and Black Bulga State Conservation Area from Wednesday 10 July. The program will end by Wednesday 24 July 2019.
Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks, state conservation areas or nature reserves. Neighbours and visitors are reminded that 1080 poison baits and capsules are lethal to domestic pets.
All areas will have 1080 baiting signs at access points to areas where baiting is taking place. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.
We suggest that working dogs be restrained to ensure they do not enter the baiting location during poisoning operations. Or, muzzle dogs if they need to work the baiting location during and after the baiting program.
This program is being carried out as part of a broader coordinated control program to reduce the impacts of wild dogs on stock and wildlife. If you would like to be involved in the cooperative program, please call Hunter Local Land Services on 1300 795 299.
