Other incidents: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Thursday 1 October 2020 to Wednesday 31 March 2021. This program will use meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and Reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Broughton Island campground in Myall Lakes National Park will be closed from Wednesday 29 July until Monday 2 November 2020 while the public toilet is being replaced and upgraded. 

The island will remain open to day visitors.

The last 5km of Barrington Trail south remains closed to vehicles due to trail conditions following recent wet conditions. Visitors can still access both Little Murray and Junction Pools campgrounds.

Hidden Treasure and Basin Loop walking tracks in Copeland Tops State Conservation Area are closed from Monday 14 September 2020. The closure is due to the walking track upgrade project and will remain in place until the project is complete. The work is expected to be completed in 6 weeks, however this depends on weather conditions.

Closed areas: Walking track closures due to bushfire damage

Five Islands, Duck Holes, and Moor Creek walking tracks remain closed until dangerous tree works are complete, a pedestrian bridge is reinstalled (Five Islands) and tree risk assessment is completed.

Many infrastructure items, including signs and creek crossings, are yet to be reinstalled.

The Fingal Island access trail and Point Stephens Lighthouse are closed to vehicles.

The sea conditions at the spit are variable, unpredictable and subject to change at short notice. People have drowned attempting to cross the Fingal Spit, and even at low tides the spit can be impacted by fast-moving water.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It has been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensure their boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

Ocean Rocks walking track in Tomaree National Park is closed due to landslide from Thursday 20 February 2020. Signs will be in place around the closed area.

All main visitor areas, including Tomaree Summit walk, will remain open. You can still access Tomaree Head via Tomaree Summit walk.

An aerial and ground baiting operation will take place in Barrington Tops National Park and State Conservation Area, Wallabadah Nature Reserve, Ben Halls Gap Nature Reserve and National Park, Crawney Pass National Park, Curracabundi National Park and State Conservation Area, Mernot Nature Reserve, Monkeycot Nature Reserve and Watchimbark Nature Reserve from Tuesday 31 March to Wednesday 30 September 2020. Meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluroacetate) poison will be used. The program is for the control of wild dog and foxes. Baiting locations are identified by signs.

Please remember that domestic pests are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Closed areas: Upper Avon Road closed

Upper Avon Road in Berrico Nature Reserve is currently closed to all vehicles between Berrico Road and Berrico Creek Road. This is due to the failure of an old log culvert. NSW National Parks is working on fixing the problem as soon as possible, depending on resource availability and the weather. Safety alerts: No driving on dunes, except for in the Recreational Vehicle Area

All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay access areas are closed to driving. Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA). The RVA is located south of the Lavis Lane access, and is now open for dune driving.

Be aware of tides. At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable. Plan your trip so that you travel at low tide. If the beachfront is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes.

We recommend that you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information.
