Closed parks: Multiple parks closed due to hazardous conditions

The closure of the following parks and reserves has been extended until Monday 29 August 2022 due to hazardous conditions and damage from flooding and storm events:

No public access is permitted. These closures may be extended, pending completion of repair works and additional weather impacts.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a ground baiting program in Bundjalung National Park and Richmond River Nature Reserve from Monday 8 August 2022 to Friday 23 December 2022.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened shorebird species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed parks: Park closed due flood damage

This park is closed from Monday 2 May until Thursday 1 December 2022, due to widespread damage following rainfall and flooding in March 2022.

Many creek crossings, roads and trails are closed and impassable due to a severe rainfall/ flooding event.

This park will re-open as soon as it is safe, after assessments and remedial works occur.

Closed areas: Border Ranges National Park walking tracks

The following areas are closed from Saturday 30 July 2022 due to recent severe flooding causing multiple treefalls and landslips:

  • Booyong track
  • Rosewood track
  • Palm Valley track
  • Brushbox Falls lookout
  • Brindle Creek walking track to Antarctic Beech picnic area

These areas will open as soon as repairs are carried out and they are deemed safe for public access.

  • Pinnacle lookout and walking track
  • Blackbutts lookout and picnic area
  • Bar Mountain picnic area

If you plan to visit Bundjalung National Park, you may experience loud aircraft noise due to RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head air weapons range in the park.

Aircraft activities may be heard and seen over Black Rocks campground and from Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

Please note:

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage. Operations are scheduled for 20-28 October and 3-10 November 2022.
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.

The following walking tracks and areas are closed until Friday 30 June 2023 due to flood damage:

Whian Whian mountain bike trails will remain closed until Saturday 1 October 2022.

The Minyon Drive access road is open.

Please drive with care as local roads leading to the park still have considerable flood damage. There are large pot holes, wash out and some narrow, single lane sections.

Safety alerts: Changed conditions in areas around Black Rocks campground

Jerusalem Creek Pontoon is closed due to recent flooding and storm damage.

Due to changed beach conditions, access is limited to the path opposite campsites 21 and 23. All other beach accesses are strictly closed. Visitors should take care in beach and creek areas, as flood debris continues to wash up on northern NSW beaches.

Please be aware that there may be water covering sections of the Jerusalem Creek walk to remote campsites. All campsites are open and accessible to the public.
