Closed areas: Minyon Falls lookout and day use area closed for event Sunday 18th of June

Minyon Falls lookout and day use area will be closed from 7:00am on the 18th of June to 17:00 on the 18th of June due to an event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the creation of Nightcap National Park.  The closed areas are:

  • Minyon Falls lookout
  • Minyon Falls day use area
  • Rummery park camp ground

Note: Minyon Grass day use area and the Minyon east walking track from Minyon Grass to the base of Minyon Falls will remain open.

Safety alerts: North Rocks Road closed

North Rocks Road is closed until Sunday 31 December 2023. The road is currently unsafe to traffic. This closure maybe extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Closed areas: Closed tracks due to flood damage

The following areas are open:

  • Minyon Grass Day Use Area
  • Minyon Falls walking track from Minyon Grass Day Use Area to base of falls only

Whian Whian mountain bike trails open with possible machinery on tracks randomly.

The following walking tracks and areas are closed until Friday 30 June 2023 due to flood damage:

  • Minyon Falls walking track from lookout to base of falls
  • Protestors Falls walking track
  • Terania Creek picnic area
  • Pholis Gap walking track

Historic Nightcap track will be closed until November 2023.

 

The Minyon Drive access road is open.

These closures may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Alternative walking options in the area include:

  • Big Scrub loop and Rocky Creek Dam walk, accessible from Rocky Creek Dam picnic area
  • Mount Matheson loop accessible from Newton Drive.

Please drive with care as local roads leading to the park still have considerable flood damage. There are large pot holes, wash out and some narrow, single lane sections.

If you plan to visit Bundjalung National Park, you may experience loud aircraft noise due to RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head air weapons range in the park.

Aircraft activities may be heard and seen over Black Rocks campground and from Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

Evans Head Air Weapons Range has scheduled a training event on Tuesday 2 May 2023 to Wednesday 3 May 2023. Noise associated with this training may be heard at Black Rocks Campground during this period.

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.

Closed parks: Wollumbin National Park closed

Wollumbin (Mount Warning) summit track will remain closed pending the development of a Memorandum of Understanding and further joint management arrangements, with future management of the park to be guided by Aboriginal custodians.

Infrastructure work is progressing to reopen Korrumbyn Creek and Breakfast Creek Day Use Areas and Lyrebird track, which were damaged by severe flooding in 2022 and ongoing wet weather. Subject to favourable weather, these areas will reopen by July 2023.

Campsites 34-49 will be closed along Black Rocks Road within Blackrocks camground from Wednesday 12th April to Friday 28th April to carry out mulching works in the area.  During this closure visitors can still access the Pontoon area, however it will need to close for 1 day between the 20-28 April to ensure visitor safety.  The alert will be updated when this date is confirmed.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a ground baiting program in Bundjalung National Park from Tuesday 1 November 2022 to Monday 1 May 2023.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes, and is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The Eastern Access to the Border Ranges National Park is closed from the 6th February 2023 to the 31st March 2023 as Kyogle Council repair two Landslips on Creegans road.

All visitor areas and Campgrounds remain open and access is via Lynches Creek Road, Wiangaree.
