Closed areas: Figtree Flat carpark closed for project works

The Figtree Flat carpark will be temporarily closed to provide storage of materials for landscape upgrades to Ironbark Flat.

Closed areas: Ironbark Flat picnic area closed for landscape upgrade

Ironbark Flat will be undergoing landscape upgrades including new turf and installation of an irrigation system. The grassed area will be closed during this period. The Visitors Centre, Dancehall Café and toilets remain open. For more information, please visit the Audley Precinct upgrades webpage.

Closed areas: Lower track closed

Lower track in Wolli Creek Regional Park is temporarily closed while remediation is carried out on Lot 2.

Undercliffe track remains open through to Jackson track and Turrella Reserve.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.

Closed areas: Altered access to The Coast track from Wattamolla - closed trail

The access trail from the 4th carpark at Wattamolla to The Coast track is currently being upgraded. The upgrade works are happening from Tuesday 4 August to late October 2020.

Although the existing trail from the top carpark to The Coast track is closed during this period, The Coast track will remain open. Visitor access to and from Wattamolla to The Coast track will be via Providential Point. Please follow the signs advising the alternate route.

Local traffic through the top carpark will be maintained, although with a reduced width due to construction works. For further information, please call the NPWS Royal Visitor Centre on 02 9542 0648 or send an email.

Closed areas: Malabar Headland Anzac Rifle Range

1. For public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice.

2. When is the eastern section of the park closed?

  • Every Saturday from 7.30am
  • Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month commencing Sunday 6 September 2020

3. Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed

These closures apply to the eastern section of the park only (Boora Point walking track).

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

The range operation schedule is provided by the NSW Rifle Association.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program will take place between Thursday 27 August 2020 and Wednesday 31 March 2021 in Towra Point Nature Reserve.

Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Closed areas: Access to Figure 8 Pools – Burgh Ridge track closed Mondays to Thursdays

Burgh Ridge track between Garawarra Farm and the Royal Coast track is closed during the week for major upgrade works from Saturday 1 August to Tuesday 1 December 2020:

  • The track is closed Monday to Thursday
  • The track is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

This closure will impact people visiting Figure 8 Pools. Visitors can access Figure 8 Pools from Garie Beach and Otford lookout along the Royal coast.

Other incidents: Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Kurnell - Possible closure at short notice

The Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park may close to vehicles at short notice when visitation levels exceed safe capacity. This is particularly likely over weekends and public holidays.

Closed areas: Closed areas for pest animal management program

Some areas of Royal National Park will be closed to the public between sunset and sunrise to enable pest animal management programs to be carried out.

These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas.

The affected areas include:

  • Audley precinct and Lady Carrington Drive
  • Artillery Hill and Warumbul Road
  • Bonnie Vale campground and picnic area.
  • Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote
  • Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
  • North Era campground
  • Garrawarra Farm

Visitors who have approved bookings to camp can still access their campsites during these times.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

Park info

  • in La Perouse area in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • 7am–8.30pm November to March. 

    7am–7.30pm April to October.

    La Perouse park entry gate closed to vehicles between 7pm and 5am all year.

    Areas may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • There are no park entry fees in La Perouse area but you'll need to pay to tour Bare Island. Park entry fees apply in the Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park, only.
