Other planned events: Upgrade works near the whales sculpture at Commemoration Flat
National Parks and Wildlife Service is undertaking construction of a new DDA-compliant boardwalk lookout platform to improve visitor access to the whales sculpture at the foreshore. The project is currently underway and scheduled for completion in October 2026.
Once finished, the new structure will provide safer, more inclusive access for all visitors. For your own safety, please do not access the fenced area and always follow directions from contractors and NPWS staff.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to rifle range operations
The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed on the following dates/times due to ANZAC Rifle Range operations:
- Monday 12 October 2026 to Friday 16 October 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Monday 19 October 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Monday 26 October 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Wednesday 28 October 2026 to Friday 30 October 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Monday 16 November 2026 to Friday 20 November 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Monday 23 November 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Monday 30 November 2026, 8am to 5pm.
- Wednesday 20 January to Monday 25 January 2027, 8am to 5pm.
Do not enter the eastern section of the national park (including Boora Point walking track) when:
- Red flags are flying above the range
- The 'rifle range in use' warning signs are displayed at the park entry (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark).
- Park entry gates are closed.

The Bus Stop Flat amenities in Audley is temporarily closed due to recent damage. While under repair, the closest alternative amenities are at Reids Flat picnic area and Ironbark Flat picnic area.

Closed areas: Partial closure of Cape Solander Drive
Cape Solander Drive will be closed to vehicle access from the entrance to the Cricket Pitch car park from 6am to 12.30pm on Saturday 24 October 2026 due to a special event taking place within the National Park.
The Cricket Pitch car park and pedestrian access will remain open. Local tracks/trails will be open to pedestrian access. For your safety, please always follow marshals' instructions.

Closed areas: Wises Track and Karani Ridge trail closure for vegetation maintenance works
NPWS contractors will be doing essential vegetation maintenance works along Wises Track and Karani Ridge fire trail, with closures in place on weekdays from Thursday 1 October to Friday 30 October 2026. The track will be open on weekends and public holidays.

Kurnell Visitor Centre is currently closed and will remain closed until late 2026. A new visitor centre is under construction.
During construction works, the precinct, including the carpark, will be fenced off and work crews will be on-site. Access to some walking tracks will be impacted. Please refer to on-site signage.
Parking and toilets are available at the Cricket Pitch and Commemoration flat precincts.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management operation
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program will take place between 30 August 2026 and 31 March 2027 in Towra Point Nature Reserve.
Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. Penalties apply for non-compliance
All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.
Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.
Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Closed areas: Bare Island closed
Bare Island will be closed from 24 August 2026 and is expected to remain closed until late 2027 while major repairs are undertaken on the timber bridge.
During construction, the precinct, including the access road, bridge, rock shelf and Bare Island Fort, will be closed to visitors. Fencing will be in place and construction crews will be working on-site. Please follow all on-site signage and directions.

Closed areas: Closure of Unauthorised Trail — East Heathcote to Waterfall
An unauthorised trail located between East Heathcote and Waterfall has now been formally and physically closed. Closure works have been completed, including signage and brush matting of the trail surface to encourage natural bush regeneration and clearly signal that the trail is no longer open to access. Access to this trail (located directly adjacent to the Eastern side of the rail corridor between East Heathcote and Waterfall) is not permitted. Please obey all closure signage. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Safety alerts: Areas Closed - Deer Control Program
Some areas in Royal National Park, Heathcote National Park and Garawarra State Conservation Area are closed to the public between sunset and sunrise from Monday to Thursday (excluding school holidays) from Monday 6 July 2026 to Friday 18 December 2026 to enable deer control operations to be carried out.
The closed areas include:
- Trails and all Picnic Flats in the Audley Precinct
- Asset protection zones adjacent to Maianbar, Bundeena and East Heathcote
- Wattamolla and Garie picnic areas
- North Era campground and coastal areas between Garie Beach and Figure 8 Pools
- Garawarra Farm
- Lady Carrington Drive
- Bonnie Vale campground and Bonnie Vale picnic area.
- Hacking River Vehicle Trail
- Camp Gully Vehicle Trail
- Karingal Picnic Area
- Powerline East Vehicle Trail
These closures will be signposted at the entry points to the closed areas. If you have a campground booking you can still access campgrounds during these times.

Closed areas: Skylight Cave permanently closed
Skylight cave is permanently closed to visitors due to serious safety risks. The cave is midway down an unstable cliff, and the risk of falling off the cliff edge while trying to reach it makes it very dangerous.
There is no approved public access walking track to Skylight cave. Please do not risk your safety trying to reach this location. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.
