Due to predicted wet weather, all accommodation on Mungo National Park will be closed from 10 am Saturday 16 May 2026 to 2pm Thursday 21 May 2026.

Due to recent rainfall Mungo National Park is closed until Wednesday 20 May 2026.
All unsealed Council access roads are currently closed to the park.
This closure may further extended or removed pending local conditions.

Safety alerts: Variable condition of unsealed Council access roads
Council-managed access roads to Mungo National Park are unsealed and in variable condition. Before travelling on any unsealed roads, please check road condition reports for Balranald, Wentworth and Central Darling Shires. Do not travel on closed Council roads.
There are numerous access routes to Mungo National Park and conditions can change quickly due to the weather.

Closed areas: Picnic Area & Campground Closures
NPWS are pre-emptively closing Mamanga & Woolpress Bend Campgrounds as well as the Picnic area at the Yanga Woolshed in Yanga NP due to predicted rainfall over the weekend. Closures are effective as of Saturday 16th May and re-opening will depend on the amount of rainfall impacting the campgrounds. Please contact the park office on 03 5021 8988 for more information.

Other planned events: NOTICE OF PLANNED GROUND SHOOTING
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting multiple ground shooting programs in Yanga National Park, State Conservation Area and Nature Reserve for the management of pest animals.
- The proposed dates for these operations will occur between 19th to 22nd May 2026.
- Yanga National Park, State Conservation Area and Nature Reserve will remain open to the public during these operations.
- Some audible gunshots may be heard during this operation.
- If poor weather occurs, it may not be possible to undertake the control.
NPWS is undertaking the management of these pest animals as they can cause significant environmental damage to biodiversity values of our conservation areas.

Safety alerts: Red Alert - Blue Green Algae - Yanga Lake
There is currently a RED alert for toxic Blue-Green Algae for Yanga Lake.
Regatta Beach Picnic Area, is still open but contact with the water should be avoided. Algae may be toxic to humans and animals. Contact with or use of water from red alert areas should be avoided due to the risk of eye and skin irritation. Drinking untreated or boiled water from these supplies can cause stomach upsets. Alternative water supplies should be sought or activated carbon treatment employed to remove toxins. People should not fish when an algal scum is present.

Safety alerts: Traffic Alert - Waugorah Road
There is currently major construction activity in Yanga National Park resulting in increased heavy haulage truck activity on the public road leading to Woolpress Bend Campground. Caution should be exercised to allow for this traffic. There are also sections of road-surface damage including bridge approaches. People accessing Woolpress Bend Campground should exercise caution and drive to the conditions.
