Safety alerts: Rough road conditions

Due to ongoing dry weather, road surface conditions are variable, rough and corrugated in areas on the Mungo self-guided drive road and The Walls Road. 

Follow the directions of 'reduce speed' signs and ensure extra care is taken when driving on these unsealed roads.

Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is planning to undertake 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Mungo National Park.

This baiting program will run from Monday 11 November to Friday 22 November 2019.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Do not touch baits. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

  • Mungo National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees: $8 per vehicle per day. Fees are payable through self-registration envelopes outside Mungo Visitor Centre. Different fees apply for commercial tour operators and vehicles with 8 seats or more.
