Safety alerts: Rough road conditions

Road surface conditions are variable, rough and corrugated in areas on the Mungo self-guided drive road, The Walls road and Pastoral loop road. 

Follow the directions of 'reduce speed' signs and ensure extra care is taken when driving on these unsealed roads.

Fire bans: Park fire ban

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Road maintenance (grading of road surface) is scheduled to occur on The Walls Road and on the Mungo self-guided Drive Tour Road to Red Top lookout, works are commencing on the 23 March 2020. Please follow the reduced speed limit signs and the directions of park staff undertaking road maintenance.

  • in Mungo National Park in the Murray-Riverina region
  • Mungo National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees: $8 per vehicle per day. Fees are payable through self-registration envelopes outside Mungo Visitor Centre. Different fees apply for commercial tour operators and vehicles with 8 seats or more.
