Road maintenance is being carried out on park roads within Mungo National Park. Please follow the directions of NPWS staff and signage when driving past roadwork operations.

Closed areas: Mungo self-guided drive - partial closure

Mungo self-guided drive tour road (from Red Top lookout) remains closed. Planning approvals have been completed and road works have commenced. These works will take some time to complete.

Fire bans: Park fire ban - Lower Darling area parks and reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and all Lower Darling area parks and reserves and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Mungo lakebed bicycle loop trail is currently closed. Maintenance on sections of the lakebed loop trail have commenced.

Belah campground is closed until further notice due to road closures.

Road works are scheduled to begin in mid November. This closure remains in place until the works are completed.

  • Mungo National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees: 

    $8 per vehicle per day. Fees are payable through self-registration envelopes outside Mungo Visitor Centre. Different fees apply for commercial tour operators and vehicles with 8 seats or more.
