Fire bans: Park fire ban - Lower Darling area parks and reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and all Lower Darling area parks and reserves and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Safety alerts: Mungo bicycle loop trail

Mungo bicycle loop trail is currently closed to enable trail maintenance repair works. NPWS staff are planning to carry out the works during autumn.

Other options for cycling include Walls Road and Zanci pastoral loop. These park roads are shared with vehicles, so please take care and cycle with caution.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is planning to undertake 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Mungo National Park.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Do not touch baits. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Belah campground closure

Belah campground will remain closed until further notice. This is because the access road requires detailed environmental assessment before maintenance repairs can be conducted.

Closed areas: Mungo self-guided drive - partial closure

Mungo self-guided drive tour road (from Red Top lookout) remains closed due to park roads being damaged. Detailed environmental assessments need to be conducted before maintenance to repair this damage can be completed.

Closed areas: Lake Drive at Morton Boulka picnic area and Emu Lake Drive closed

These two small sections of road in Kinchega National Park are closed:

  • Lake Drive from Morton Bouka picnic area to Cawndilla campground
  • Emu Lake Drive

Cawndilla campground is not accessible. Emu Lake Drive is currently closed but Emu Lake campground is accessible when the park is open.

Cawndilla campground is closed. Lake drive is closed from Morton Boulka picnic area and there is no access to Cawndilla campground.
