Fire bans: Park fire ban - Lower Darling area parks and reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and all Lower Darling area parks and reserves and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Mungo self-guided drive tour partial closure

Mungo self-guided drive tour road (from Red Top lookout) remains closed. The closure is a result of park roads being damaged after significant spring rain and requiring maintenance to repair this damage. This closure will remain in place until further notice. 

The road is open to the Mungo Visitor Centre, Walls of China boardwalk and Red Top lookout. The Pastoral Loop road is also open. Penalties apply for non-compliance

Belah campground will remain closed until further notice due to access roads requiring maintenance and repair. This closure may be further extended pending these maintenance works.

Closed areas: Cawndilla campground closed until further notice

Cawndilla campground is closed. Lake drive is closed from Morton Boulka picnic area and there is no access to Cawndilla campground.

This closure is in place unless otherwise extended or removed. For further information please contact the NPWS Broken Hill area office on 08 8084 2880.

Closed areas: Lake Drive at Morton Boulka picnic area and Emu Lake Drive closed

These two small sections of road in Kinchega National Park are closed:

  • Lake Drive from Morton Bouka picnic area to Cawndilla campground
  • Emu Lake Drive

Cawndilla campground is not accessible. Emu Lake drive is closed but Emu Lake campground is currently open.

Safety alerts: Mungo bicycle loop trail closed

The Mungo bicycle loop trail is currently closed. It has large areas of damage and requires maintenance to repair. Other options for cycling include the Walls Road and Zanci pastoral loop. These park roads are shared with vehicles, so please take care and cycle with caution.
