This park is closed due to wet weather, including all campgrounds and roads within the park. This closure is in place until Wednesday 28 October 2020 and may be further extended depending on conditions.  Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Safety alerts: Access roads affected by wet weather

Significant rainfall has fallen in the Lower Western Area, including Mungo National Park, and will affect access roads to and within the park.

Fire bans: Park fire ban - Lower Darling area parks and reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and all Lower Darling area parks and reserves and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Safety alerts: Mungo bicycle loop trail closed

The Mungo bicycle loop trail is currently closed. It has large areas of damage and requires maintenance to repair. Other options for cycling include the Walls Road and Zanci pastoral loop. These park roads are shared with vehicles, so please take care and cycle with caution.

Mungo Shearers' Quarters are closed until 31 October 2020. NPWS are limiting numbers of guests in the Shearer's Quarters after this time to ensure COVID safe plans are met. Bookings need to be made through the "Book Now" button on the NPWS website.

Park info

  • in Mungo National Park in the Murray-Riverina region
  • Mungo National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees: $8 per vehicle per day. Fees are payable through self-registration envelopes outside Mungo Visitor Centre. Different fees apply for commercial tour operators and vehicles with 8 seats or more.
