Fire bans: Park fire ban - Yanga and Kyalite

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

Other planned events: Aerial pest control operation

From Wednesday 16 October to Friday 18 October 2019 an aerial pest control operation will occur in Yanga National Park, State Conservation Area and National Reserve. All visitor areas will remain open during this program. This program will target feral pigs and deer and aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program underway

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing a 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Yanga National Park, Yanga Nature Reserve and Yanga State Conservation Area.

This baiting program will run from Wednesday 25 September to Monday 14 October 2019. It will reduce the impacts of pest animals on wildlife and threatened species in the park and neighbouring stock.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don’t touch the baits. Some baits may be buried. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.
