Some parts of this park are closed due to recent bushfire damage. The closed areas are:

Other planned events: Aerial spraying of bitou bush

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting an aerial herbicide spraying operation between Monday 11 May 2020 and Friday 3 July 2020. Please note the program has been extended from Sunday 28 June 2020 until Sunday 2 August 2020 due to unsuitable weather conditions preventing program completion during the original period. For public safety, the areas being treated will be closed temporarily on the day they are sprayed. Advice on specific areas to be temporarily closed will be provided a week before spraying.

This spraying program is being carried out to control bitou bush on headlands and beaches in:

  • Booti Booti National Park (completed)
  • Saltwater National Park (completed)
  • Tomaree National Park
  • Myall Lakes National Park (including Broughton Island)
  • Khappinghat Nature Reserve (completed)
  • Stormpetrel Nature Reserve (completed)
  • Little Broughton Island Nature Reserve (completed)
  • Some adjoining Crown Lands

The program is expected to take 8 to 10 days to complete, dependant on weather conditions.

Spraying is planned in the following areas:

  • Wednesday 1 July 2020 inclusive - Myall Lakes National Park including Mungo Beach (South) and Bennett’s Beach. Once these areas are treated, this will complete the 2020 aerial spray program for the above reserves.

The herbicide used is Metsulfuron methyl 600WG. NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter spray operation. Please ensure you follow the advice on all warning signs and the directions given by NPWS staff.

Closed areas: Booti Hill and Wallis Lake walking track closure

Booti Hill and Wallis Lake walking track in Booti Booti National Park will be closed from Tuesday 30 June to Thursday 2 July 2020. The closure is due to a weed spraying operation for the control of bitou bush. A helicopter will be used to transport materials to and from the weed spraying site.

Willi Willi National Park is closed due to extensive bushfire damage. Hastings Forest Way is also closed due to extensive damage during recent bushfires in the area.

Do not enter the park. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Other incidents: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting ongoing aerial and ground baiting programs in this park from Tuesday 23 June to Tuesday 22 December 2020. This program will use meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

This program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the recent extensive bushfires, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and Reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Tapin Tops National Park bushfire impact

Walking tracks within the reserve (Potaroo Falls Rainforest circuit, Red Cedar walk and Rowleys Rock) are closed and will reopen once dangerous tree works are complete and tree assessments finalised.

Dingo Tops rest area is open now for day use although there are currently no toilet facilities. 

All public roads and trails are open through the reserve.

Closed areas: Khappinghat National Park and Nature Reserve bushfire damage

Most roads in this park have now reopened. Some fire management trails remain closed with work continuing to re-open. Reserve closed signs will be removed once all works are complete. 

Five Islands, Duck Holes, and Moor Creek walking tracks remain closed until dangerous tree works are complete, a pedestrian bridge is reinstalled (Five Islands) and tree risk assessment is completed.

Many infrastructure items, including signs and creek crossings, are yet to be reinstalled.

Closed areas: Most of Talawahl Nature Reserve closed with some roads open

Talawahl Nature Reserve remains closed. The following roads within Talawahl Nature Reserve have been made safe to travel on:

  • Coates Road
  • Breakneck Road
  • Blackbutt Road.

 Visitors must only use these roads as thoroughfares and must not stop in the nature reserve. NPWS is continuing to work on reopening additional public roads within the reserve. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.
