Other planned events: Notice of aerial spraying program in Crowdy Bay National Park

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be spraying Bitou Bush by aerial application between Wednesday 13 June and Friday 23 June 2023 in Crowdy Bay National Park. Some beaches, roads, headlands and walking tracks will be temporarily closed during the operation for public safety. 

Bitou Bush will be sprayed with herbicide (Metulfuron methly) and the operation is expected to take 2 days to complete. The exact dates will be subject to favourable weather conditions. 

NPWS staff will be present and patrolling closed areas during the operation. The following closures will apply when operations are underway: 

  • Dunbogan Beach/Diamond Head Beach, from the northern border of Crowdy Bay National Park to Geebung picnic area
  • Blackbutt picnic area
  • Cheese Tree picnic area
  • Geebung picnic area
  • Mermaid lookout walking track
  • Headland loop walking track
  • Kylies Beach/Crowdy Beach from south of Kylies Beach campground to Abbey Creek picnic area
  • Mermaid beach access
  • Figtree beach access

All Crowdy Bay campgrounds, Forest walking track and Metcalfes walking track will remain open. The southern most section of Diamond Head Beach and a section of northern Kylies Beach will remain open.

Closed parks: Reserves closed due to severe weather event

Update June 2023: Contractors have commenced work on the landslips  and culverts in The Glen NR. Works have been completed on eight landslips, two bridges and seven  culverts,  with additional  culvert repairs and replacement works to follow. The Glen Nature Reserve remains closed to all visitors due to a number of landslips and failed culverts.

A number of NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service reserves are closed until further notice due to damage from severe weather event. These include:

  • The Glen Nature Reserve
  • Berrico Nature Reserve

Landslips, collapsed bridges and culverts and hazardous trees have been reported across many areas. For your safety, please avoid these reserves until damage assessments can be made and any safety issues rectified.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at authorised public entrances to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The Ruins beach amenities block is temporarily closed from Monday 30 January due to construction works. Please avoid the construction zone and use the northern track to access Seven Mile Beach.

Safety alerts: Detour to Bird Tree Picnic Area

Access to Bird Tree picnic area in Middle Brother National Park is currently affected by a landslip on Grey Gum Ridge Road.

Park visitors can still access Bird Tree picnic area by using Haydons Road off the Pacific Highway instead of the signposted access off Middle Brother Road. There is no access to Bird Tree Picnic Area from Grey Gum Ridge Road to the south (towards the towers) due to this land slip.

Some roads within Myall Lakes National Park are temporarily closed due to the impacts of recent severe weather. The closed roads are:

Closed areas: The Mungo Track detour due to flood damage

The boardwalk between Tamboi trail and Brambles Green campground is closed due to flood damage.

You will need to follow the detour on The Mungo Track at Mungo Brush. Please follow the walking track to the beach and then walk south for 4km.

Take the slashed management trail which connects the beach to Mungo Brush Road to rejoin The Mungo Track route.
