Other planned events: Summer road closures

Royal National Park can be extremely busy in summer. Some parts of the park may be closed at short notice when carparks are full or for other public safety reasons.

Areas likely to be affected by carpark closures or access restrictions when precincts reach capacity are:

  • Wattamolla picnic area and Wattamolla Road
  • Garawarra Farm carpark and Garawarra Farm Road (Figure 8 Pools carpark)
  • Bonnie Vale picnic area
  • Audley precinct

Transport for NSW has closed Garie Road at the intersection with Sir Bertram Stevens Drive, due to a landslide. Vehicles and pedestrians will not be able to use any part of Garie Road to access any part of Royal National Park. A reopening date for this road is not currently known, but is expected to be in mid to late 2023.

Closed areas: Palm Jungle loop track partial closure

The eastern section of Palm Jungle loop track between Burning Palms and Werrong lookout, is closed for 12 months, from Monday 16 January 2023 to Wednesday 31 January 2024.

This closure is due to track upgrade works.

You can still walk this section of The Coast track if you divert via Garawarra Farm and Burgh Ridge trail.

Closed areas: Garie Road closed due to damage

Garie Road is closed until further notice due to damage to the road surface.

This road may remain closed for some time to allow for extensive repairs. A reopening date is not currently known.

Penalties apply for non-compliance. Please check Live Traffic NSW for updates before driving to Garie Beach.

The Coast track is closed between Garie and Little Garie until further notice due to rockfalls and erosion.

Garawarra Farm Road will be closed on weekdays from Monday 13 February 2023 until late April 2023, due to road upgrade works.

There is no vehicle or pedestrian access during the closure period, and the road will be open on weekends.

You can still walk past Garawarra Farm via Burgh Ridge track or Garawarra Ridge fire trail (from Otford).

Closed areas: Royal National Park - Closures due to storm damage

Royal National Park has been impacted by severe storms and flash flooding. The following areas and facilities are currently closed

-The Audley Precinct including all picnic areas and visitor facilities

-The Audley Boatshed

-The Audley Visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre phone number will be operating.

-Sir Bertram Stevens Drive is currently closed at Audley Weir - visitors should check livetraffic.com for updates on the road networks throughout Royal National Park before entering the park.

 

The Weir Cafe will be closed on Friday 10 February. 

This page will be regularly updated through the day as other parts of the park are assessed for damage and any further closures will be advised.

Safety alerts: Machinery operating around Reids Flat picnic area

Soil Conservation Service will be undertaking remediation works on erosion around Riverside Drive, Audley until Tuesday 14 February 2023.

Reids Flat picnic area and carpark will be open during this period, but may be affected by reduced parking and heavy machinery movements until the completion of works. Riverside Drive will be closed to pedestrian traffic.

There will be heavy machinery travelling along surrounding Fire Trails and reduced public access along these trails.

Other planned events: 1080 pest management program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program will take place between Thursday 25 August 2022 and Friday 31 March 2023 in Towra Point Nature Reserve.

Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.
