Closed areas: Commemoration Flat amenities block closed

From March to June 2024, contractors will be demolishing and replacing the amenities block at Commemoration Flat and upgrading the associated services. During these construction works, the northern part of Commemoration Flat carpark and the amenities block will be fenced off and occupied, and work crews will be on site.

Toilets will remain available at the visitors centre and cricket pitch area. The surrounding picnic areas and barbecue facilities will continue to be accessible during construction.

Closed areas: Kurnell foreshore partial closure

Transport for NSW is constructing ferry wharves at Kurnell and La Perouse. Closures will be in place until late 2024. There will be no public access to the foreshore area between Prince Charles Parade and the wharf along Monument walking track. Alternative pedestrian pathways will be in place to allow public access into Kamay Botany Bay National Park.

Closed areas: Kurnell Visitor Centre closed for upgrades

Kurnell Visitor Centre is currently closed until further notice. The site is being prepared for a new visitor centre as part of the Kamay 2020 Project.

Closed areas: Royal National Park impacted by flooding

Royal National Park has been impacted by heavy rain and flooding. It will take several days to assess the full extent of damage.

Road access into the park is open however, please check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures before travelling though Royal National Park.

Please note:

All areas open with the exception of :

  • Wattamolla precinct is closed with flood damage to infrastructure and will remain closed until repairs are undertaken and assessed as safe
  • Uloola Falls Campground is closed.
  • All tracks and trails are open however, not all have inspected.

This page will be updated as damage assessments are completed.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in this park. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. In life-threatening situations call emergency services on Triple Zero (000).

Closed areas: Fire trail closures

The following fire trails are closed on weekdays from Tuesday 5 March to Monday 22 April 2024 for upgrade works:

  • Engadine Lakes trail
  • Goarra Ridge trail.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to roadworks on Warumbul Road

Warumbul picnic area and Weemalah Cottage will be closed from Tuesday 2 April 2024 to Friday 19 April 2024. The closure is to allow repair works to take place on the unsealed section of Warumbul Road in Royal National Park.

Closed areas: The Coast track partial closure

Walking the full length of The Coast track from Otford to Bundeena or Bundeena to Otford is not currently possible. This is due to several track closures along its length. These closures are necessary due to erosion and rockfall risk, and to allow ongoing track upgrade works.

Please note the following closures:

  • Palm Jungle Loop track between Burning Palms and Werrong lookout is closed from Tuesday 16 January to Sunday 30 June 2024 for track upgrades.
  • The Garie to Little Garie section of The Coast track is closed due to hazardous rockfalls and erosion.
  • North Era campground is closed until further notice
  • Garie Road, Garie Beach and the Garie precinct is closed until further notice. This is due to damage and subsidence to the road surface. Walkers approaching from the north (e.g. from Wattamolla or Bundeena) should exit the track via Curra Moors track.

Bushwalker access is available for the following sections of The Coast track:

  • South bound access - Bundeena to Curra Moors track via Wattamolla and return only. No access to Garie Beach.
  • North bound access - Available via North Era and return only. Access is via Garawarra Farm Ridge trail and Burgh Ridge track during track upgrades.
  • Figure 8 Pools access - Available via Garawarra Ridge trail and Burgh Ridge track via Garawarra Farm only.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to rifle range operations

The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed on the following dates/times due to ANZAC Rifle Range operations:

  • Each Saturday, 8am to 5pm.
  • The 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month, 8am to 5pm.
  • ANZAC Rifle Range Special events: 
    • Anzac Day - Thursday 25 April 2024 (11am - 5pm)
    • Sydney Shoot - Friday 26 April 2024 (8am - 5pm)
    • NSWRA Champions Weekend - Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June 2024 (8am - 5pm both days)
    • All Schools training and competition - Wednesday 17 to Friday 19 July 2024 (8am - 5pm)

Do not enter the eastern section of the national park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • The 'rifle range in use' warning signs are displayed at the park entry (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark).
  • Park entry gates are closed.

The western section of the national park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open when the rifle range is in use.

Garie Road is closed until further notice due to damage to the road surface.

This road may remain closed for some time to allow for extensive repairs. A reopening date is not currently known.

Park info

  • in the La Perouse area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • 7am–8.30pm November to March. 

    7am–7.30pm April to October.

    La Perouse park entry gate closed to vehicles between 7pm and 5am all year.

    Areas may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • There are no park entry fees in La Perouse area but you'll need to pay to tour Bare Island. Park entry fees apply in the Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park, only.
