A small section of Monument Footpath has been temporarily closed off due to flood water damage, about 650 metres from the start of the path at the intersection of Captain Cook Drive and Prince Charles Parade, Kurnell.

Construction of a new whale watching platform is underway at Cape Solander. The road from Yena to Cape Solander is closed to vehicles. Walking tracks remain open.

Closed areas: Cabbage Tree Basin footbridge - daytime closures for maintenance

Cabbage Tree Basin footbridge (between the townships of Bundeena and Maianbar) will be closed between 8am and 4pm on Monday 27 June and Tuesday 28 June 2022. The bridge will remain open outside these times.

The main scope of works involve removing the bridge decking and welding cross bracing to the frame to increase stability. Improvements will also be made to the bridge supports to reduce restraint of the footbridge fixings, and address erosion around the abutments. These works are essential and will improve the structural performance of the bridge.

NPWS appreciates your patience while this important work takes place and apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Closed areas: Closed areas due to rifle range operations

The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed on the following dates / times due to rifle range operations:

  • Every Saturday, 8am to 5pm
  • Every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month, 8am to 5pm
  • Extra Sunday Shooting has been scheduled for Sunday 31 July 2022
  • Schools shooting practice and competition week Monday 11 July to Friday 15 July 2022 (inclusive)

Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • The 'rifle range in use' warning signs are displayed at the park entry (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) is open when the rifle range is in use.

Closed areas: Royal Coast Track closed at Otford

The Coast Track will be closed Monday to Friday for upgrade works near Otford lookout from Tuesday 14 June to late September 2022. The track will remain open on weekends and public holidays.

When the track is closed:

  • Visitors will not be able to access Figure 8 Pools, Werrong Beach track or the Palm Jungle loop track from Otford lookout 
  • Coast Track walkers will have to exit the track at Garawarra Farm.

Visitors can still access Figure 8 Pools from Garawarra Farm at any time.

Park info

  • in the La Perouse area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • 7am–8.30pm November to March. 

    7am–7.30pm April to October.

    La Perouse park entry gate closed to vehicles between 7pm and 5am all year.

    Areas may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • There are no park entry fees in La Perouse area but you'll need to pay to tour Bare Island. Park entry fees apply in the Kurnell area of Kamay Botany Bay National Park, only.
