Yuelarbah walking track in Glenrock State Conservation Area will be closed from Wednesday 1 July 2020 until Saturday 4 July 2020. The closure is to allow for maintenance works to be carried out from the car park to the suspension bridge. Penalties apply for non-compliance. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial and ground baiting program using meat baits, meat bait products and ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program will be continuous and ongoing from Tuesday 5 May to Wednesday 4 November 2020 in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

  • Capertee National Park
  • Dharug National Park
  • Goulburn River National Park
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Wollemi National Park
  • Yengo National Park
  • Durridgere State Conservation Area
  • Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area

Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Watagan Road - not suitable for 2WD vehicles (Cessnock Council section)

Watagan Road from the cattle grid at the end of Heaton Road south, uphill to the second cattle grid at the Watagans National Park boundary, is currently not suitable for 2WD vehicles. The road is rough and steep in sections because of erosion caused by rain and vehicle traffic. Take care and drive safely.

The section of Lemon Tree Forest Road, between Prickly Ridge Road and Yambo Forest Road, in Jilliby State Conservation Area is closed to vehicles. This closure will remain in place indefinitely due to severe erosion and 4WD vehicle damage.

Closed areas: Fingal Island access trail and Point Stephens Lighthouse - closed to vehicles

The Fingal Island access trail and Point Stephens Lighthouse are closed to vehicles.

The sea conditions at the spit are variable, unpredictable and subject to change at short notice. People have drowned attempting to cross the Fingal Spit, and even at low tides the spit can be impacted by fast-moving water.

Closed areas: Parts of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area closed

Parts of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area are closed for approved underground mining operations. The affected areas (see map) have been closed to protect visitor safety, because they're subject to subsidence and remediation activities from the mining operations.

The Great North Walk remains open. An update will be provided should this situation change.

If you're visiting the park, please be aware of subsidence and pollution incidents that took place in 2013, which were greater than what was expected from normal mining operations. These included a cliff fall in the north, and a subsidence and grout leak incident in the central part of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area. 

If you're planning to visit the park during this time, please stay on formed tracks and trails and observe all barriers, warning signs and safety messages. Safety alerts: Road access in Jilliby State Conservation Area

All roads in Jilliby State Conservation Area are unsealed, and not accessible by 2WD vehicles.  4WD vehicles should be used at all times. Click Creek fire trail is closed due to extensive storm damage. The trail will remain closed until maintenance works can be completed. Slippery Rock Road is closed due to eroded surfaces making conditions unsafe. The road will reopen, subject to consent conditions once maintenance work is completed.

Yambo Forest Road in Jilliby State Conservation Area is not suitable for 2WD vehicles due to rain and potential vehicle damage. 4WD access is possible from Dooralong Road through to the Lemon Tree Road intersection. Ocean Rocks walking track in Tomaree National Park is closed due to landslide from Thursday 20 February 2020. Signs will be in place around the closed area.

All main visitor areas, including Tomaree Summit walk, will remain open. You can still access Tomaree Head via Tomaree Summit walk.

Safety alerts: No driving on dunes, except for in the Recreational Vehicle Area

All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay access areas are closed to driving. Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA). The RVA is located south of the Lavis Lane access, and is now open for dune driving.

Be aware of tides. At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable. Plan your trip so that you travel at low tide. If the beachfront is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes.

We recommend that you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information.

The Morisset section of Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area is closed from Thursday 20 December 2019. There is now no public access to the following areas:

  • The  Morisset Hospital site
  • Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area foreshore
  • Morisset picnic area.

Alternative picnic areas are located in the Lake Macquarie Council area in and around the Morisset and Bonnells Bay foreshores. There is no public access to view the kangaroos that frequent the hospital site.
