Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA).

  • All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay accesses are closed to driving.
  • The RVA, which is located south of the Lavis Lane access, is open for dune driving.

Tide warning: At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable, plan your trip to travel at low tide. If the beach front is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes. It is recommended you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information

Other planned events: 1080 wild dog baiting program underway

Wild dog ground baiting using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) is planned for Belford National Park and Black Creek, North Rothbury from Monday 6 May to Friday 31 May 2019.

This program is part of a coordinated control program guided by the Central Hunter Wild Dog Management Plan, which aims to mitigate the impacts of wild dogs on stock and wildlife. If you'd like to be involved in the program, please call Hunter Local Land Services on 1300 795 299.

Although not expected, some non-target or domestic animals may be affected, particularly domestic dogs. While domestic animals aren't permitted in national parks, be extra vigilant in ensuring that pets and working dogs are controlled, and not allowed access to baiting locations during and after the program. If working dogs are being used, we suggest muzzling them during and after baiting. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be undertaking 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) ground baiting for wild dog and fox control in Brisbane Water National Park. The program will start on Monday 6 May and finish by Monday 3 June 2019.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. Neighbours and visitors are reminded that 1080 baits are lethal to domestic pets.

All areas will have 1080 baiting signs at access points to areas where baiting is taking place. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

We suggest that working dogs be restrained to ensure they do not enter the baiting location during poisoning operations. Or, muzzle dogs if they need to work the baiting location during and after the baiting program.

This baiting program is being carried out as part of a broader coordinated control program to reduce the impacts of wild dogs on stock and wildlife. If you would like to be involved in the cooperative program, please call Greater Sydney Local Land Services on 1300 795 299.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a wild dog control program from Monday 11 March 2019 until Sunday 5 May 2019 in parts of Myall Lakes and Ghin-Doo-Ee national parks. The program will involve trapping and the use of 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison baits. The program is part of a wider cooperative program being conducted in conjunction with Local Land Services, Forestry Corp, Mid Coast Council and the Bulahdelah and District Wild Dog Control Group.

Domestic animals are highly susceptible to 1080 poison and people are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in nature reserves, national parks or state conservation areas. Pet owners and landholders must ensure their pets and working dogs do not enter the baiting locations. Bait locations will be identified through signage placed on the main entrance points to these areas.

The Morisset section of Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area is closed from Thursday 20 December 2018. There is restricted access to the Morisset Hospital Site and Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area foreshore and Morisset picnic area. Alternative picnic areas are located in the Lake Macquarie Council area in and around the Morisset and Bonnells Bay foreshores. There is no public access to view the kangaroos that frequent the hospital site.

Closed areas: Parts of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area are closed to the public

Parts of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area are closed for approved underground mining operations. The affected areas (see map) have been closed to protect visitor safety because they are subject to subsidence and remediation activities from the mining operations.

The Great North Walk remains open. An update will be provided should this situation change.

Visitors to the park are asked to be aware of subsidence and pollution incidents that took place in this in 2013, which were greater than what was expected from normal mining operations. They included a cliff fall in the north, and a subsidence and grout leak incident in the central part of Sugarloaf State Conservation Area. Further details can be found on the Office of Environment and Heritage website.

If you are planning to visit the park during this time, please stay on formed tracks and trails and observe all barriers, warning signs and safety messages.
