Closed areas: Worimi Conservation Lands is closed due to recent archaeological finds
The Worimi Conservation Lands dune and beach area is closed to the public due to recent unexpected archaeological finds. Large volumes of sand have shifted due to the recent severe weather event and exposed several areas that require immediate assessment.
- Visitors are advised that all beach driving is temporarily closed until further notice.
- The Ganyamalbaa campground is closed
- The Recreational Vehicle Area is closed
This closure may be extended if necessary as it is pending a full site survey.
No vehicles are allowed on the beach during the closure. Gan Gan entry, Lavis Lane and Fern Bay entries are closed with barriers and signs in place.

The Welcome Mangrove Walk of Ash Island, Hunter Wetlands NP is closed due to damage, from Monday 26th August until further notice.

Safety alerts: Dangerous water conditions
Please do not swim or enter the water at Stockton Beach in the Worimi Conservation Lands. Tragically, people have drowned while swimming here.
The beach is remote, unpatrolled and has dangerous rip currents, unexpected large waves and sudden drop offs. Ocean conditions can change rapidly.
Mobile phone service is also limited here - you may not be able to call for help if you need it.

Safety alerts: Use caution for beach front driving
Beach driving conditions remain variable due to changing swell, tides and weather conditions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution when driving and to check conditions before travel.
Please remember to:
- Look out for soft sand, erosion, wash outs and drop-offs.
- Avoid driving through sea water, foam or large pools of water. Driving conditions can change rapidly. Several vehicles on this beach have ended up in the ocean or swamped by water.
- Check conditions before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day.
Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel and/or signage. Do not drive over the frontal dune or any vegetation.
