Safety alerts: Beachfront impassable during high tide

Gan Gan entry and part of Worimi Conservation Lands beachfront are closed to vehicles during high tide for visitor safety. The beachfront becomes impassable at high tide due to hazardous surf conditions and beachfront erosion.

Driving conditions can change rapidly on the beachfront. Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel, and do not drive over the frontal dune or any vegetation.

The following areas are safe and open for 4WD access:

  • Lavis Lane entry
  • Recreational vehicle area
  • Ganyamalbaa campground

Please remember to:

  • Look out for soft sand, erosion, wash outs and drop-offs
  • Avoid driving through sea water, foam or large pools of water
  • Check tidesforecast conditions and warnings before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day

Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.
