Fire bans: Park Fire Bans

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Hickson Street walking track in Glenrock State Conservation Area will be closed for track upgrades from Monday 21 October to Monday 30 December 2019.

Other planned events: Fox baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 ground baiting of foxes in Hunter Wetlands National Park on Ash Island. The baiting program will run from Tuesday 1 October to Tuesday 24 December 2019. It will reduce the impacts of foxes on wildlife and threatened species in the park.

There will 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don't touch baits or ejector devices. Some baits may be buried Penalties apply for non-compliance. Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in National Parks or reserves. 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cars. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Morisset picnic area

The Morisset section of Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area is closed from Thursday 20 December 2018. There is restricted access to the Morisset Hospital Site and Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area foreshore and Morisset picnic area. Alternative picnic areas are located in the Lake Macquarie Council area in and around the Morisset and Bonnells Bay foreshores. There is no public access to view the kangaroos that frequent the hospital site.

Safety alerts: No driving on the dunes, except for the Recreational Vehicle Area

Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA).

  • All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay accesses are closed to driving.
  • The RVA, which is located south of the Lavis Lane access, is open for dune driving.

Tide warning: At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable, plan your trip to travel at low tide. If the beach front is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes. It is recommended you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information
