NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a ground baiting program in Hunter Wetlands National Park from 14 April 2025 to 26 May 2025.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Fern Bay 4WD Access Track Closed

The Worimi Conservation Lands is currently open via the Lavis Land 4WD access track at Williamtown and the Gan Gan 4WD access track at Anna Bay for beach driving.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution as the beach front and entrances are still recovering from the recent weather events.

The following will remain closed until further notice

  • Fern Bay 4WD access track
  • Ganyamalbaa Campground

Penalties apply for non-compliance. Parks will re-open as soon as staff have had the opportunity to assess conditions. For more information, please contact the local NPWS office.

Closed parks: Tilligerry State Conservation Area pest control operation 23 June to 7 July 2025

Tilligerry State Conservation Area has a pest animal control operation from 23 June to 7 July 2025.

Tilligerry State Conservation Area is permanently closed to the public to protect the Tomago drinking water catchment.

 

Please observe all signage and instructions from staff during this time. Please ensure all pets are not entering the park and are contained to private properties.

Safety alerts: Use caution for beach front driving

Beach driving conditions remain variable due to changing swell, tides and weather conditions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution when driving and to check conditions before travel.

Please remember to:  

  • Beach front inaccessible 1 hour either side of high tide 
  • Look out for soft sand, erosion, wash outs and drop-offs.
  • Avoid driving through sea water, foam or large pools of water. Driving conditions can change rapidly. Several vehicles on this beach have ended up in the ocean or swamped by water.
  • Check conditions before arriving, and if in doubt save your visit for another day.

Please follow the directions of National Parks and Wildlife Service personnel and/or signage. Do not drive over the frontal dune or any vegetation.

Safety alerts: Dangerous water conditions

Please do not swim or enter the water at Stockton Beach in the Worimi Conservation Lands. Tragically, people have drowned while swimming here.

The beach is remote, unpatrolled and has dangerous rip currents, unexpected large waves and sudden drop offs. Ocean conditions can change rapidly.

Mobile phone service is also limited here - you may not be able to call for help if you need it.
