From Tuesday 13 July to Friday 17 December 2021 NSW National Parks will be running a 1080 pest management program in the following parks:

  • Richmond River Nature Reserve
  • Broadwater National Park
  • Bundjalung National Park 

There will be signs at baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

These programs are run to protect threatened species identified in the NSW Fox Threat Abatement Plan and Saving our Species programs.

We encourage landholders to participate in control programs on private property. Contact North Coast Local Land Services to discuss and arrange programs. Delays may occur due to unsuitable weather conditions.

Tweed Range Scenic Drive will be closed east of the Brindle Creek Road exit from Wednesday 12 January to 5pm Tuesday 28 January 2022 to carry out roadworks. The following areas are also closed:

  • The Pinnacle lookout
  • Blackbutts lookout
  • Bar Mountain circuit
  • Bar Mountain lookout
  • Bar Mountain picnic area

The rest of the park remains open and can only be accessed via Lynches Creek Road. This closure may be extended.

Closed areas: Pedestrian beach access closed

Pedestrian Beach access is closed at the Southern end of Blackrocks campground.

The pedestrian beach access located near sites 28 and 29 will be closed indefinitely due to damage caused by cyclone Seth.

Alternative pedestrian beach access points are located opposite sites 8, 9, 21 and 23. For further information, contact the NPWS Alstonville area office on 02 6627 0200.

Closed areas: Newton Drive access to Mount Nardi closed

Newton Drive access to Mount Nardi is temporarily closed from Friday 14 January to Friday 11 February 2022. The closure is due to tree fall requiring removal

Closed areas: Booyong walking track partial closure

The section of Booyong walking track, between Sheepstation Creek and Forest Tops campgrounds is currently closed due to a number of fallen trees blocking the track, making access difficult.

Please avoid this track until NPWS field staff are able to clear the area and make it safe. The area is expected to have been cleared by Friday 28 January 2022.

Closed areas: O'Connors fire trail closed for maintenance

O'Connors fire trail is closed from Monday 10 January 2022 until mid-February 2022 for maintenance and upgrades. Signs will be in place around closed areas.

Cutters Camp campground and picnic area are open, and visitors can still access Byrrill Creek walking trail.

Closed areas: Tweed Range Scenic Drive East park entrance closed

The east park entrance on Tweed Range Scenic Drive (from Barkers Vale) is closed until Monday 31 January 2022 due to multiply landslips being repaired.  Tweed Range scenic drive is open from Sheepstation Creek to Bar Mountain. Access to Tweed Range scenic drive is only via Lynches Creek Road from Wiangaree. There is currently no access from the Barkers Vale entrance. All roads, walking tracks and lookouts within the park are open

Closed parks: Wollumbin National Park closed

Wollumbin National Park is closed until Thursday 31 March 2022 due to public safety risks associated with the summit walking track, and to allow further consultation with the Aboriginal community and other key stakeholders about the future management of the site.

Some of the best views of Wollumbin can be found along Pinnacle walk and lookout in Border Ranges National Park. You can also try Goorgana walking track or Pholis Gap walking track in nearby Nightcap National Park, or Best of All lookout at Queensland’s Springbrook National Park.

If you plan to visit Bundjalung National Park, you may experience loud aircraft noise due to RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head air weapons range in the park.

Aircraft activities may be heard and seen over Black Rocks campground and from Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

Please note:

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage.
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.
