Safety alerts: Road closed due to flood damage

Due to flooding there is significant road damage on the access road to the third camping area at Blatherarm campground (campsites 8, 9 and 10) in Torrington State Conservation Area. Do not proceed past the creek crossing on Blatherarm Road adjacent to the second camping area.

The first two camping areas (campsites 1 to 7) are still accessible, but please exercise caution on all roads within the reserve, particularly after additional rainfall, and drive to the conditions.

Safety alerts: Degraded road conditions - 4WD only

Please be aware road conditions may be degraded due to heavy rain. Access on these roads is limited to 4WD only.

Spirabo Forest Way is especially degraded. It runs through Capoompeta National Park from Ten Mile Road in the south, and continues through the western side of Washpool National Park where it joins Scrub Road in the north.

Please be cautious and drive to road conditions.

Safety alerts: Ugly Corner Falls track damage

Ugly Corner Falls walking track is damaged due to flooding. Surfaces may be uneven due to erosion.

Please follow all signage and don't enter areas that are fenced off. Due to recent rainfall creek levels can change rapidly. It is unsafe to swim or attempt to cross rivers that are flooded.

Closed areas: Road closure

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Closed areas: Roadworks and heavy equipment in park

Roads in this park will be closed to public access due to roadworks happening on Joes Box Road, South Yabbra Road, Yabbra Plains Road and Pocupar Road. Most of the works are happening on management trails that are not open to visitors, but other roads in this area will be affected by heavy equipment. The work includes vegetation management, grading and haulage. It is expected to be complete by early December 2021, weather dependant.

Closed parks: Parks closed due to flood damage - Hastings Macleay area

Several parks within the Hastings Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage. Access and camping is not permitted in closed parks.

These closures are due to widespread flooding and extensive damage to roads, bridges, campgrounds and other park facilities.

These closures are in place until 8am, Friday 31 December 2021. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.​​​​

If you plan to stay at the campground in Butterleaf National Park you will need to fill in a Trip Intention Form before you leave home.

All NPWS campgrounds now require you to make an online booking before you stay, or to complete a Trip Intention Form for those that are remote and do not have a dedicated webpage, like the campground in Butterleaf National Park.
