Safety alerts: Track works in progress

All walking tracks in Cathedral Rock National Park have reopened following bushfire recovery efforts. Some minor track work is still being undertaken on the initial section of the Cathedral Rock track from the Barokee campground carpark, however detours are in place around sections being actively worked on. Please follow any directions or signage in place on the track.

Safety alerts: Degraded road conditions - 4WD only

Road conditions within the reserve may be degraded due to recent heavy rains, particularly Spirabo Forest Way that runs through Capoompeta National Park from Ten Mile Road in the south, and continues through the western side of Washpool National Park where it joins Scrub Road in the north. Access on these roads is limited to 4WD only, and please be cautious and drive to road conditions.

Closed areas: Yuraygir Coastal Walk closed at Lake Arragan

The Yuraygir Coastal Walk is closed at Lake Arragan as it has opened to the ocean.

The water is fast flowing and is walkers are unable to cross at this point.

The following areas are closed until further notice due to high river flows at the Urumbilum River crossing and damaged trail conditions:

  • Jersey Bull Road
  • Binderray picnic area

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid going to this part of this park.

The overnight wilderness walk and Bicentennial trail require several river crossings. The catchment is currently full and experiencing intermittent flooding. River conditions can change rapidly without warning. Please avoid entering fast flowing rivers and streams.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. In life-threatening situations call emergency services on Triple Zero (000).

Some areas of this park are closed until further notice due to the demolition of a bridge from a past flooding event.

The closed areas include the 4WD access to North Washpool, an area also known as Washpool rest area, entering from Baryulgil onto Collum Collum Road. The bridge is washed away at the junction of Washpool Creek and Collum Collum Road.

Please note:

  • Washpool National Park’s 2WD entrance off Gwydir Highway onto Coachwood Drive and Washpool Forest Way is open.
  • Bellbird campground, Coombadjha campground and the Granites lookout and picnic areas are accessible.

Access to Doon Goonge campground is not possible from the north on Chaelundi Road. This is due to bridge damage sustained during bushfires in the Dalmorton area. The best route is from the south via Chaelundi Road and then Quartz Road.

Safety alerts: New England Wilderness Walk wet weather warning

The Bellinger River catchment has experienced above average rainfall over the past few months and river levels can rise quickly with rain.  River crossings on the Wilderness Walk become extremely dangerous when river levels rise and walkers may become stranded.

Do not do the walk during periods of high river levels or forecast rainfall.

Check the Bureau of Meteorology for river levels and rainfall before setting off.

Woolgoolga Creek picnic area is closed due to the access road collapsing as a result of flooding. The Falls walking track is also closed due to flood damage. Assessment and design works are underway, and works will be scheduled pending weather and contractor availability.

The Ebor Falls visitor precinct in Guy Fawkes River National Park is open. However the park is fire-affected and facilities within Ebor Falls picnic area have also been affected.

Closed parks: Parks closed due to flood damage - Hastings Macleay area

Several parks within the Hastings Macleay area are closed due to flood and storm damage. Access and camping is not permitted in closed parks.

These closures are due to widespread flooding and extensive damage to roads, bridges, campgrounds and other park facilities.

These closures are in place until 8am, Friday 31 December 2021. Some parks will remain closed for extended periods.​​​​

High clearance 4WD capable vehicles are required to access Pebbly Beach and Station Creek campgrounds. This includes water crossings which can change quickly dependent on local rainfall and tidal conditions.

Access to Pebbly Beach and Station Creek campgrounds is dependent on Clarence Valley Council (CVC) and Forestry Corporation road infrastructure.
