Safety alerts: Red alert for blue-green algae - Kemendok National Park

A red level warning (high alert) for blue-green algae is in place in the Lower Murray Water service region:

  • Murray River at Mt Dispersion (NSW)
  • Murray River at Kemendok National Park (NSW)

A red alert warning indicates that people should not undertake recreational activities where they may come into direct contact with the water, such as swimming, as well as domestic uses, including showering and washing. Contact with the water may also pose a threat to livestock and pets.

Water NSW and Lower Murray Water are regularly monitoring water quality along the river and will report results as they become available. 

Warning signs have been erected in popular areas along the river where blue-green algae red alert level warnings have been issued.

If you see what you suspect may be a blue-green algae bloom, please contact the Water NSW Mildura office on 03 5051 3400 with the location (and a photo if possible).

Yanga National Park office is currently closed to the public due to COVID-19 restrictions. You can still contact us by phone or email for information.

Visitors can still access the historic Yanga Homestead precinct between 8.30am and 4.30pm daily. A self-guided tour offering exclusive access inside the homestead is available from Balranald Visitor Information Centre or Balranald Caravan Park. Call the visitor information centre on 1800 444 043 for more information.

There is a Substantial risk of unexploded ordinances (UXO) within Livingstone National Park.

There is signage erected at all entrances to the risk area.

Safety alerts: Heavy vehicles on Tin Mines trail

There are currently logging trucks using Tin Mines trail between the Ferndale pine plantation and Tunnel Road. Tin Mines trail is the main access into Woomargama National Park.

The logging company have the trail well signposted indicating the presence of heavy vehicles and asking motorists to take extreme care.
