NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an aerial baiting program between Monday 11 May 2026 to Friday 22 May 2026, using 1080 (sodium fluroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. This program is part of an integrated feral animal control strategy, aimed at minimising the impacts of wild dogs and foxes on neighbouring stock.

This program forms part of a larger feral animal control program and will be conducted in the Thredbo/Ingebyra, Dalgety/Paupong & Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah Wild Dog Plan Areas.

This includes the following areas of Kosciuszko National Park:

  • Thredbo Valley
  • Moonbah
  • Ingebyra
  • Lower Snowy area
  • Paupong & Numbla Vale areas
  • Byadbo & Pilot Wilderness 

Baiting programs will also be undertaken in Merriangaah & Quidong Nature Reserves. All baiting locations will be identified by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing baiting program from Thursday 5 February 2026 to Thursday 2 February 2027. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. This program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Baiting programs will take place across Kosciuszko National Park Wild Dog Plan Areas including:

  • Thredbo/Ingebyra
  • Dalgety/Paupong
  • Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah

Baiting programs will also take place in nature reserves including:

  • Paupong Nature Reserve
  • Merriangaah Nature Reserve
  • Quidong Nature Reserves

This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park:

  • Thredbo Valley
  • Moonbah
  • Ingebyra
  • Paupong
  • Numbla Vale

Some parts of Kosciuszko National Park are closed for hazard reduction burning from Tuesday 28 April to Sunday 17 May 2026. The closed areas are:

  • Perkins Flat campground
  • Long Plain Road north of the Broken Cart Trail intersection.

Closed areas: Thredbo Valley track partial closure

With forecast weather and planned maintenance, the Thredbo Valley track is now closed to cyclists between Thredbo Resort and Thredbo Diggings. This section will remain open for walkers.

Sections between Thredbo Diggings and Bullocks Flat, including Muzzlewood track, and the lower Thredbo Valley track (Bullocks Flat to Thredbo River picnic area) remain open to cyclists and walkers.

As winter approaches these closures will extend along the track. Please continue to check alerts and obey all signage. Follow IMBA Guidelines and don't ride on wet tracks.

Transport for NSW will be doing road works on the Yarrangobilly Caves Road from Tuesday 11 November 2025 to Friday 3 July 2026. The direction of travel into and out of the Yarrangobilly Caves precinct will be temporarily reversed to allow workers safe access to the worksite. Drive safely and follow directions of road work signs. Kosciuszko Thredbo (KT) will be conducting a baiting program using carrots containing pindone (pindone, sodium salt) poison for the control of rabbits. The program will take place between Monday20 April 2026 and Friday 22 May 2026 at Thredbo Alpine Village, within Kosciuszko National Park.

All baiting locations will be signposted. Free feeding using non-poisoned carrots will be undertaken before using pindone carrots.

Safety alerts: Geehi Dam Road - changed road conditions

Road repair works are to be carried out on Geehi Dam Road from early March to 6 June 2026. The worksite is located approximately 2km south of Geehi Dam. The Geehi Dam Road remains open but will be reduced to one lane of traffic with give-way signage at the road repair site. There is increased heavy vehicle movement on the Geehi Dam Road over this period and the Middle Creek Former Snowy Scheme Site is to be used for materials storage for the project.

To assist in your journey, please use caution when driving on the Geehi Dam Road and do not enter areas of construction.

Some parts of Tantangara Reservoir will be closed intermittently due to Snowy 2.0 construction activities involving controlled blasts. Full exclusion zones will be established prior to and during blast operations. The areas affected are:

  • Tantangara Reservoir adjacent to the Snowy 2.0 construction site and Reservoir boat ramp, adjacent to the Tantangara Dam wall may have intermittent closures due to construction activities.

Signs will be placed at the entry to baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands.

Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Kanoonah Road in Coolangubra section of South East Forests National Park is closed from Myanba Falls Road through to the northern park boundary due to a major landslip.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ongoing ground baiting programs in Kosciuszko National Park from Monday 8 December 2025 to Monday 8 June 2026.

The program will be conducted in the northern precinct of the park, which includes the following areas:

  • Goobarragandra
  • Blowering Foreshores
  • Big Talbingo/Buddong

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes and wild dogs. The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
