The following public roads in Kosciuszko National Park will be closed for winter vehicle access from Tuesday 9 June to Friday 2 October 2026:

  • Long Plain Road
  • Port Phillip Trail
  • Blue Waterholes Trail
  • Four Mile Trail
  • Pocket Saddle Road
  • Bullocks Hill Trail
  • Tumut Ponds Trail
  • Olsens Lookout / Geehi Dam Road
  • Behrs Flat trail (including Behrs Flat campground and Old Geehi campground)
  • Geehi Walls trail
  • Major Clews trail
  • Powerline Road
  • Boundary Road
  • Broken Cart Trail (including Dubbo Flat campground)
  • Cumberland Trail (4WD section)
  • Barnetts Trail

Safety alerts: Thredbo Valley Track Vegetation Maintenance Works

Contractors will be clearing vegetation for 3 weeks on the Thredbo Valley Track between Thredbo Resort and Bullocks Flat from Monday 1 June 2026.

Please follow directions from contractors and signage on site.

Closed areas: Thredbo Valley track partial closure

The following sections of the Thredbo Valley Track are closed to cyclists:

  • Thredbo Resort to Bullocks Flat
  • Muzzlewood track
  • Bullocks Flat to Gaden Trout Hatchery.

These sections remain open to walkers, however please take care as soft and slippery surfaces occur.

Thredbo Valley track between Gaden Trout Hatchery and Thredbo River picnic area remains open to cyclists and walkers.

Please continue to check alerts and obey all signage. Follow IMBA Guidelines and don't ride on wet tracks.

Closed areas: Dead Horse Gap carpark closed for maintenance

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be undertaking maintenance works at the Dead Horse Gap parking area from Sunday 31 May to Wednesday 3 June 2026. 

The carpark will be closed to visitors for this period. Alternative parking to access Dead Horse Gap Track, Thredbo River Walk and Cascade Trail is available at the Cascade trailhead carpark.

Please follow all directions from NPWS staff. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Ngarigo Campground will be closed to all visitors from 8am Monday 25 May 2026 until 12pm Friday 5 June 2026.

This closure is to ensure important pre-winter maintenance can be completed.

The Old Geehi campground is closed for safety due to hazard reduction burning impacting on the Geehi Hut and Geehi Walls trails. The closure applies to:

  • Old Geehi campground and Old Geehi Hut
  • Geehi Hut trail
  • Geehi Walls and associated section of the National trail
  • Major Clews trail and Major Clews Hut

Closed areas: Illawong Trackhead closed to vehicles for upgrade

The Guthega Track Head vehicle drop off area and turning circle is closed to vehicles for construction works from Monday 10 October 2025  to Friday 1 May 2026. 

Walkers can still access the Snowies Alpine Walk and Illawong Walk. NPWS are constructing a new toilet facility at the Guthega Track Head.

Safety alerts: Geehi Dam Road - changed road conditions

Road repair works are to be carried out on Geehi Dam Road from early March to 6 June 2026. The worksite is located approximately 2km south of Geehi Dam. The Geehi Dam Road remains open but will be reduced to one lane of traffic with give-way signage at the road repair site. There is increased heavy vehicle movement on the Geehi Dam Road over this period and the Middle Creek Former Snowy Scheme Site is to be used for materials storage for the project.

To assist in your journey, please use caution when driving on the Geehi Dam Road and do not enter areas of construction.
