Closed areas: Notification of helicopter operations at Dead Horse Gap Walk
Helicopter sling load operations are scheduled to occur between the Dead Horse Gap carpark on the Alpine Way and Dead Horse Gap walking track on Tuesday 17 February 2026 between 8am and 3pm (dependant on weather and flying conditions). The Dead Horse Gap carpark will be closed to the public from Monday 16 February until operations are completed the following day.
The helicopter operations are part of the Dead Horse Gap Walk Renewal project. Dead Horse Gap walking track will remain open with pedestrian controllers in place. Visitors may experience short delays while materials are flown over or near impacted areas.
Traffic control will also be in place on the Alpine Way between the Cascades and Dead Horse Gap carparks for the duration of the operation. You may experience short delays when accessing these areas.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting an ongoing baiting program from Thursday 5 February 2026 to Thursday 2 February 2027. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. This program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Baiting programs will take place across Kosciuszko National Park Wild Dog Plan Areas including:
- Thredbo/Ingebyra
- Dalgety/Paupong
- Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah
Baiting programs will also take place in nature reserves including:
- Paupong Nature Reserve
- Merriangaah Nature Reserve
- Quidong Nature Reserves
This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park:
- Thredbo Valley
- Moonbah
- Ingebyra
- Paupong
- Numbla Vale
- Corrowong
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: Wares Yards campground - Changed access conditions
There is an increase in heavy machinery and light vehicle movements on the Snowy Mountains Highway (between Cooma to Tumut) and Link and Tantangara Roads within Kosciuszko National Park, due to the Snowy 2.0 project.
You are likely to encounter heavy machinery and trucks when accessing Wares Yards campground. This will continue for a number of years and involves the use of specialised heavy vehicle combinations for transporting materials associated with the project.

Closed areas: Kosciuszko National Park closed sites
A number of sites in Kosciuszko National Park are closed or may have other restrictions until further notice.
Fire-affected areas
Some sections of Kosciuszko National Park which burnt during the 2019/2020 fires remain closed. These areas include:
- Wolgal and Pattinson's Huts
Snowy 2.0 works affecting access to Tantangara Road and Tantangara Dam
- Access to the southern end of Tantangara Reservoir via Quarry trail is closed to the public.
- Access to the southern end boat ramp is open, but may be subject to short-term closures.
- Current boating and camping access to Tantangara Reservoir will still be available at access points on the northern end of the reservoir, via Port Phillip and Dam trails.

Closed areas: Nunnock Swamp area including Packers Swamp and Dragon Swamp closed for ground pest control operation
The Tantawangalo section of South East Forests National Park will be closed to the public from 8am Tuesday 10th February to 8am Saturday 21st February 2026 for a ground pest control operation.
The closed areas include:
- Nunnock campground
- Nunnock grasslands walking tracks
- Alexanders Hut
- Alexanders Hut campground
- Packers Swamp
- Dragon Swamp
This operation will involve ground shooting of deer and feral pigs during day time or night as required. It aims to reduce the significant impact invasive species have on native plants and animals including threatened species. Other pest animals, including foxes and wild dogs may be targeted if observed during the operation.
Park closure warning signs will be placed at entrances to the shooting area. Do not enter the closed area during shooting periods Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Multiple roads and trails in Wadbilliga National Park closed due to Fire
The following roads and trails remain closed to all public access following the Brassknocker FT bush fire -

- Peak Alone Road and Peak Alone Fire Trail
- Supers Fire Trail
- Barren Jumbo Fire Trail

Transport for NSW will be doing road works on the Yarrangobilly Caves Road from Tuesday 11 November 2025 to Friday 27 March 2026. The direction of travel into and out of the Yarrangobilly Caves precinct will be temporarily reversed to allow workers safe access to the worksite. Some parts of Tantangara Reservoir will be closed intermittently due to Snowy 2.0 construction activities involving controlled blasts. Full exclusion zones will be established prior to and during blast operations. The areas affected are:
- Tantangara Reservoir adjacent to the Snowy 2.0 construction site and Reservoir boat ramp, adjacent to the Tantangara Dam wall may have intermittent closures due to construction activities.
