NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be spraying Bitou Bush by aerial application between Wednesday 13 June and Friday 23 June 2023 in Crowdy Bay National Park. Some beaches, roads, headlands and walking tracks will be temporarily closed during the operation for public safety.
Bitou Bush will be sprayed with herbicide (Metulfuron methly) and the operation is expected to take 2 days to complete. The exact dates will be subject to favourable weather conditions.
NPWS staff will be present and patrolling closed areas during the operation. The following closures will apply when operations are underway:
- Dunbogan Beach/Diamond Head Beach, from the northern border of Crowdy Bay National Park to Geebung picnic area
- Blackbutt picnic area
- Cheese Tree picnic area
- Geebung picnic area
- Mermaid lookout walking track
- Headland loop walking track
- Kylies Beach/Crowdy Beach from south of Kylies Beach campground to Abbey Creek picnic area
- Mermaid beach access
- Figtree beach access
All Crowdy Bay campgrounds, Forest walking track and Metcalfes walking track will remain open. The southern most section of Diamond Head Beach and a section of northern Kylies Beach will remain open.

Bitou bush will be sprayed by helicopter with herbicide (metsulfuron-methyl 600) between 29 May and 23 June 2023 in the NPWS Hastings-Macleay Area. Some beaches, headlands, roads , picnic areas and walking tracks in Limeburners Creek National Park will be temporarily closed during the helicopter operation for public safety.
The program is expected to take 2 days to complete with suitable weather conditions. Temporary closures will occur on the day of spraying and NPWS staff will be present during the helicopter operation. Please ensure you adhere to all warning signs and directions of NPWS staff.
Areas and Walking Tracks to be closed during spraying operations include:
- Big Hill Walk track
- Big Hill Back Beach
- Barries Beach
- Plomer Back Beach
- Short delays on Point Plomer Rd from Big Hill to Point Plomer Campground
- Point Plomer Road (south of Point Plomer)
- Queens Head day use area
- North Shore Beach

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Barakee National Park, Barrakee State Conservation Area, Biriwal Bulga National Park, Bugan Nature Reserve, GhinDoo-Ee National Park, Goonook Nature Reserve, Talawahl Nature Reserve, Talawahl State Conservation Area, Tapin Tops National Park and Wallamba Nature Reserve from 6th May 2023 to 14th May 2023.
The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Access to the Banda Banda Aboretum is open however extreme caution should be exercised. The trail becomes very slippery in damp or even misty weather and there is an increased risk of fallen trees blocking the trail. There are limited places to turn around safely if the trail is blocked. Visitors are encouraged to walk in to the Arboretum rather than drive.
