Closed areas: Pest animal control Lake Innes Reserves

Some areas in Lake Innes Nature Reserve are closed from 7pm to 7am each night from Monday 16 March to Friday 20 March 2026 for ground shooting of feral animals. The closed areas are:

  • All areas south of Lake Road
  • The Googik Track and Boundary Trail including all linking and adjoining trails
  • Innes Ruins Historical Site

  • This program will target deer. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including koala habitat and threatened species.
  • Other pest animals, including pigs, goats, foxes, cats and wild dogs will be targeted if observed during the operation.

Other planned events: Indian Head campground - Tree management works

Hazardous tree works will be undertaken at Indian Head campground in Crowdy Bay National Park on Monday 9th March 2026 between 8:00am and 5:00pm. The works will remove dangerous overhanging branches and deadwood from trees to ensure campground safety.

The works will cause some noise disturbance and temporary access restrictions. Visitors are asked not to leave vehicles or camping gear unattended at Indian Head campground while the works are undertaken. Please abide by all exclusion zones and signage, and follow the instructions of staff/contractors to ensure the works can be undertaken safely and efficiently. 

The works may impact access to the following facilities:

  • Kylies Hut
  • Metcalfes walking track
  • Forest walking track
  • Diamond Head Loop walk

Closed areas: Cliff Face walking track temporarily closed due to impacts from flooding / severe weather

Cliff Face Track will be closed from Tuesday 20th May 2025 until further notice due to impacts from the flooding and severe weather event that occurred during May 2025  

The walking track will reopen when the damage has been rectified and the site is safe.

Fire bans: Park Fire Ban, Wallingat, Myall Lakes and Tapin Tops National Parks

A park fire ban is in place in this park from midnight Thursday 18th December 2025 and remains in effect until midnight Monday 6th April 2026, unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

A rockfall on Waterfall Way west of Bellingen has closed the road, visit Live Traffic for more details.

This closure affects travellers from the coast visiting Dorrigo and New England National Parks. 

Transport NSW advise that diversions are in place:

Light Vehicles can travel via Summervilles Road, Gordonville Road, Gleniffer Road, Wheatley Street, Hammond Street and Bridge Street in both directions. This route has a 10-tonne vehicle limit.

Heavy vehicles must avoid the area or consider using an alternative route such as the Oxley Highway, Gwydir Highway or New England Highway.

Closed areas: Closed roads in multiple north coast national parks due severe weather damage

Some roads are closed in New England National Park, Dunggir National Park and Gumbaynggirr National Park and Station Conservation Area due to ex-tropical cyclone Alfred and other flood events. 

Roadblocks have been installed on Horseshoe Road to prevent vehicle movements at the Killikrankie Mountain Lookout intersection in the north 

Affected roads include:

  • Horseshoe Road – culvert blow out and undermining of road, no through access. Remediation will begin in January 2026 when weather is suitable for equipment access across wet roads. 
  • Gaddes Ridge Road – major landslip, no through access. This road will remain closed indefinitely, after an independent geotechnical engineer's assessment identified an unacceptable risk of ongoing landslip. Please travel via Cedar Road.

These closures will remain in place until geohazard assessments can be undertaken and works completed. You may need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in these parks. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Visitors are advised that for safety reasons firepits have been removed from Crowdy Gap campground.

Fires are not permitted on the ground. If you choose to have a fire you must bring your own portable fire pit or brazier. Braziers can be hired from Diamond Head campground if required.

Visitors must also bring in their own firewood and be aware of fire regulations and any park or total fire bans in place.

Closed areas: Rawson Falls Walking Trail closure

Part of the Rawson Falls Walking Trail remains closed due to extensive damage caused by the May 2025 major flood event. Sections of the trail are affected by dangerous trees, and a significant landslip has occurred on the track leading to the base of the waterfall.

The picnic area as well as the top section of the walking trail to the lookout platform are open.

The section of trail below the lookout will remain closed while planning approvals and procurement are completed to remediate the landslip.

Access to Yessabah Nature Reserve is permanently closed to unauthorised personnel. The former quarry area has limestone rock faces that are unstable and prone to rock fall. Other areas of the reserve are geologically unstable.

Closed areas: Ngambaa Feral Predator Free Area - Closed Roads

Construction is complete on the Ngambaa Feral Predator-Free Area which has necessitated the closure of roads in the reserve for visitor safety.

 

Cedar Park picnic area will remain open and available for visitor access. 

 

The following roads are subject to permanent closure as part of the construction and operation of the feral predator free area: 

  • Wittigs Road
  • parts of Stockyard Creek Road
  • Seams Road
  • Jacks Road
  • Buds Crossing Road

 

Construction works were completed in August and the 23k of fencing is complete. 

 

Construction works have included:

  • clearing the fence corridor
  • building the fence
  • installing bridge and culvert crossings.

 

Closed areas: Closed for ground pest control operations

Pest animal control shooting operations will also occur in these areas

Shooting operations will occur on select nights throughout this period. The operations will run from sunset to sunrise in areas that are closed for public access.
