NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial and ground baiting program in this park from Sunday 23 May to Sunday 31 July 2022.
The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs.
The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be spraying bitou bush by helicopter between 16th and 27th May 2022. Some beaches, headlands, roads and walking tracks in Hat Head NP, Goolawah NP and Limeburners NP will be temporarily closed during the helicopter operation for public safety.
The program is expected to take approximately 4 days to complete with suitable weather conditions. Temporary closures will occur on the day of spraying and NPWS staff will be present during the operation. Please ensure you adhere to all warning signs and directions of NPWS staff.

Most national parks and reserves in the Coffs Coast area are closed until at least Friday 1 July 2022 due to widespread flooding and severe weather as risk assessments and repairs are undertaken.
Access to hard-roofed accommodation on-park remain open.
Access to campgrounds at Doon Goonge in Chaelundi National Park and Thungutti campgrounds in New England National Park have are open.
As parks, roads and other facilities are assessed as safe, they will be reopened. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

Safety alerts: New England Wilderness Walk wet weather warning
The Bellinger River catchment has experienced above average rainfall over the past few months and river levels can rise quickly with rain. River crossings on the Wilderness Walk become extremely dangerous when river levels rise and walkers may become stranded.
Do not do the walk during periods of high river levels or forecast rainfall.
Check the Bureau of Meteorology for river levels and rainfall before setting off.

Access to Mermaid Pools is permanently closed including for swimming. Sudden large swells and tides create major waves that wash over the rocks and pools.
Do not access this area. The severe conditions at this site have caused a number of significant injuries and deaths in the past.
Mermaid Pools have never been a designated visitor site due to the extreme nature of the surf and tides at this location. There is no approved public access walking track to Mermaid Pools.
