Closed areas: Notification of helicopter operations - Dead Horse Gap Walk - Tuesday 10th February 2026

Helicopter sling load operations are scheduled to occur between the Dead Horse Gap carpark on the Alpine Way and the Dead Horse Gap Walk on Tuesday 10th February 2026 between 8:00am and 3:00pm (dependant on weather and flying conditions).

The helicopter operations are part of the Dead Horse Gap Walk Renewal project. The Walk will remain OPEN with pedestrian controllers in place. Visitors may experience short delays while materials are flown over or near impacted areas.

Traffic control will also be in place on the Alpine Way between the Cascades and Dead Horse Gap carparks for the duration of the operation. Short delays may be experienced when accessing through these areas to and from the Cascades carpark.

The Dead Horse Gap carpark will be closed to the public from Monday 9th February and will remain closed until operations are completed the following day.

Other planned events: Geehi, Behrs Flat and Old Geehi campgrounds upgrades

From Monday 2 February to Friday 3 April 2026, there will be construction to upgrade visitor facilities in small areas of the Geehi campgrounds. This includes Geehi Flats, Behrs Flat and Old Geehi campgrounds. The campgrounds will remain open, although machinery will be operating in the campgrounds during this time. Do not enter construction areas. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Illawong Trackhead closed to vehicles for upgrade

The Guthega Track Head vehicle drop off area and turning circle is closed to vehicles for construction works from Monday 10 October 2025  to Friday 1 May 2026. 

Walkers can still access the Snowies Alpine Walk and Illawong Walk. NPWS are constructing a new toilet facility at the Guthega Track Head.

The suspension footbridge crossing the Murray River (Victorian border) at Tom Groggin Station is unsafe for pedestrian access and is closed until further notice.

Several buildings in the Bullocks Hut complex are closed until further notice for restoration works. Please do not enter the construction sites.

Park info

  • in the Thredbo-Perisher area of Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains region
  • The Thredbo-Perisher area is open all year, but some roads and trails may close due to weather conditions or park management issues. Kosciuszko Road is closed between Perisher and Charlotte Pass in winter (June to October long weekends).
  • Park entry fees apply on Alpine Way and Kosciuszko Road

    Winter (June to October long weekends): $29 per vehicle per day (24hrs from purchase); motorcycles $12; bus passengers $11.45 per adult, $3.60 per child per day. Find out more about the winter entry surcharge.

    Rest of Year: $17 per vehicle per day (24hrs); motorcycles $7; bus passengers $6.60 per adult, $2.20 per child per day.

    Passes: Day passes, multi-day passes and annual All Parks Pass available from NPWS visitor centres, local agents and operating vehicle entry stations. Single and Multi-Day passes are also available via the Park'nPay app. Short Breaks Pass: $68 for 5 days park entry at price of 4 days (not valid winter).
