Safety alerts: Changed vehicle access to Sheepstation Creek campground

Due to a major landslip on Forest Road, Sheepstation Creek campground can only be accessed Via Simes Road and Grady's Creek Road until further notice.

Sheepstation Creek campground remains open until Sunday 15 May.

Closed areas: Border Ranges National Park partial closure

Border Ranges National Park is partly open following completion of flood repair works. However, some areas are closed over the next month for additional maintenance works:

  • Tweed Scenic Drive is closed from Wednesday 11 May to Monday 30 May 2022 due to hazardous conditions. This closure also includes Forest Tops campground.
  • Sheepstation Creek campground will be closed for repair works from Sunday 15 May to Sunday 19 June 2022. 
  • The following walking tracks will remain closed until further notice due to damaged sustained in the recent weather events: 
    • Booyong walking track
    • Brindle Creek walking track
    • Rosewood loop 
    • Bar Mountain walking track

Border loop walk, lookout and picnic area remain closed until further notice, due to damage and closures on Lions Road.

The eastern entrance to the park on Tweed Range Scenic Drive remains closed from Barkers Vale until further notice.

Rummery Park campground is now open. 

Access to the campground will be via Nightcap Range Road only. Minyon Drive access road remains closed for repairs until further notice. 

Peates Mountain walking track is the only track open and accessible from the campground.

Due to major road works, Minyon Drive will be closed from Monday 16 May to Monday 20 June between the park boundary and Rummery Park campground. This closure may be postponed or extended depending on weather and pending successful completion of works.

There will be no access to the park from the eastern end of Minyon Drive for the duration of the closure. All visitors are to use Nightcap Range Road to access Rummery Park campground and Peate's Mountain Track.

Minyon Falls picnic area and lookout, Minyon Grass picnic area and Minyon Loop remain closed until further notice.

Nightcap National Park and Whian Whian State Conservation Area have been partially re-opened, including Rummery Park campground. Many areas remain closed until further notice due to flood damage sustained in the recent floods and impacts of ongoing wet weather.

Other planned events: Notice of noise from RAAF training operations

If you plan to visit Bundjalung National Park, you may experience loud aircraft noise due to RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head air weapons range in the park.

Aircraft activities may be heard and seen over Black Rocks campground and from Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.

Please note:

  • The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage.
  • RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
  • Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.

  • in Cape Byron State Conservation Area in the North Coast region
    • Cape Byron State Conservation Area is open all hours, but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.
    • Cape Byron Lighthouse lawn is open 8am to sunset.
    • The Maritime Museum in the former Lighthouse Keeper’s office at the base of the lighthouse is open 10am to 4pm daily.
    • Opening before 8am for events or disabled access can be arranged by prior notice – contact NPWS Byron Bay office during business hours 02 6639 8300.
  • Park entry fees:

    Cape Byron Lighthouse lawn and Information Centre: $8 per vehicle per hour/$4 per hour motorcycles. Maximum 1 hour per vehicle per calendar day, including all NPWS annual passholders.

    Captain Cook lookout, Cosy Corner, and The Pass: $4 per vehicle/motorcycle per hour. Pay and display machines - cash and credit cards accepted.

    Coach entry: $29 per coach up to 30 seats; $55 per coach 31 to 43 seats; $91 per coach 44 seats and over.
