Some areas along headlands and beaches in Booti Booti and Myall Lakes national parks, including Broughton Island, will be closed between Monday 14 May and Friday 27 July 2018 due to a helicopter spraying operation. The treated areas are closed on a temporary basis and usually for 1 day or less.
Aerial spraying is planned for:
- Thursday 21 and Friday 22 June 2018, in the Seal Rocks and Yagon areas. This will include Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse, Lighthouse Beach, Yellow Rock, Treachery Beach, Yagon Headland, Yagon Beach and Yagon campground.
- Saturday 23 June 2018, on Broughton, Little Broughton and Stormpetrel Island nature reserves.
The operation involves spraying with the herbicide Metsulfuron methyl 600WG to control bitou bush. NPWS staff and/or temporary signage will be in place to indicate which areas are closed on any particular day. Traffic control will also be in place on Mungo Brush Road at times during this period. Please ensure you follow all warning signs and directions from NPWS staff.
Flying of drones in closed areas during aerial spraying operations is prohibited.
