Closed areas: Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse Keepers' Cottages closed

Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse Keepers' Cottages are closed for conservation works. The Assistant Light keepers' Cottages (North and South) are closed until further notice.

The Head Light keepers' cottage will re-open for bookings from Friday 31 August 2018.

The following campgrounds will be temporarily closed to undertake essential maintenance, and to rest sites over the winter season:

Other planned events: 1080 fox and wild dog baiting program

NPWS will be running 1080 wild dog and fox control from Monday 23 July 2018, for a three week period. The following areas will be affected:

  • Columbey National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Monkerai Nature Reserve
  • Black Bulga State Conservation Area

Closed areas: The Wells campground - temporarily closed

The Wells campground is temporarily closed for essential maintenance from Tuesday 24 July 2018. The maintenance work includes improvements to drainage, site leveling and replacing damaged fencing and fireplaces.

The campground will be re-opened as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Closed areas: Rainforest walk to Riverside Park - closed due to fire

Rainforest walk to Riverside Park is closed due to a fire in Hunter Wetlands National Park. This area will remain closed until a tree assessment is carried out in this area, unless the closure is otherwise extended or removed.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program underway

A 1080 fox baiting program is being conducted at Tomago and Hexham within Hunter Wetlands National Park. 1080 poison can affect non-target species including cats and dogs. The pubic are advised not to allow their pets to stray into these sections of Hunter Wetlands National Park. Domestic pets are not allowed in Hunter Wetlands National Park, either on a leash or off-leash. The baiting program will finish on 11 September 2017.

Safety alerts: No driving on the dunes, except for the Recreational Vehicle Area

Drive only on the waterfront, or in the Recreational Vehicle Area (RVA).

  • All dunes between the Lavis Lane and Anna Bay accesses are closed to driving.
  • The RVA, which is located south of the Lavis Lane access, is open for dune driving.

Tide warning: At high tide, sections of the beach may be impassable, plan your trip to travel at low tide. If the beach front is too narrow to pass safely, retrace your route. Do not attempt to bypass around the dunes. It is recommended you do not drive on the beach 2 hours before and after high tide. Visit the Bureau of Meteorology website for further information

Closed areas: Camping at Stockton Beach closed

Camping at Stockton Beach remains closed until further notice - Stockton Bight Camping remains closed while the area continues to recover, following severe winter storms.The beach is still open for people to visit, and there are a large variety of commercial tours available daily.
